Who is the most productive Mefite? November 17, 2013 9:37 PM   Subscribe

Do you like games? Do you like being productive? Would you like to see if you are more productive than other mefites? You might want to play the productivity game!

If you know what a kanban is and what pomodoros are, this is for you. Basically, kanbanflow.com has a pomodoro tool that generates productivity points for each minute of a successful pomodoro. Other people that you share a board with are ranked with you on these points. Are you more productive than other mefites? Let's find out!

Send me a memail with your email address and I'll add you to a shared board (Productive Mefites). That shared board is mostly for discussions about how to administer this "game." Use another board for your personal tasks. I'll add names in batches throughout the day tomorrow, but don't let that stop you from accumulating points - you will still get points even if you aren't in the group yet.

[these kanban boards should be personal, not organizational]

Does this involve making utterly obscene quantities of crystal meth?

If making meth is being productive to you - sure (but please don't do that). This brings up a really good point though, the things you are working on are private to you - group members would only see your points. So if your work involves things you'd rather not share it won't be shared with us.

Oh god, I need a mefi tool that turns Mefi off from 6AM to 10PM, not a kanban tool to add to my kanban tools that I already use IRL...

Annika: Then you need LeechBlock, which got me through my finals this last year.

...on the original topic, I am very intrigued, but not quite sure how to measure my productivity.

But I'm winning least productive Mefite.

Let me get back to you on this.

Do snark comments count? If so is there a snark-metric scale?

Where has this been all my life? Signing up now.

These words I think they should stand for something but I have no desire to find out what that is.

Definitely bookmarked for when I stop procrastinating.

This seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to over a handful of tomatoes...

This sounds completely hellish.

I just earned my first 25 points and while I've always sort of wanted to use the pomodoro method and sort of used it round about, this was super productive!!! I only have 2 minutes left on my break. Back to work!!!

Does this involve some kind of breast massage or hormone therapy? I'd like to be more productive, although I don't know what I'm going to do with all that milk.

I'm not sure my productivity would see a net gain if I introduced a productivity-gamification thing that I could get distracted by, but I wish everybody else the best.

Lord, save me from my procrastination... but not yet.

Seriously; I am a terrible procrastinator, but it's also my prime productivity method. You will not believe the shit you can get done while you're avoiding other shit.

Yup. I'm with anotherpanacea. Everything I do is directly caused by either procrastinating on something else, especially if the something else has an impending deadline that is very important.

Of course, most of my comments on metafilter are due to the same impulse, so, eh.

I realize now that I am truly an unproductive person. Once I clicked the links, I immediately began wondering whether setting up the kanbanflow itself would count as WIP, whether the act of winding the timer was WIP, and whether or not the winding came out of the break time.

Well, OK, I really realized I was a truly unproductive person when i stopped grading papers so I could check out MeTalk.

I know what you mean, anotherpanacea. I like to call that 'adrenaline transfer.'

The trick is to think of dying as the task that you are fundamentally avoiding. You can get everything else done, that way.

So when does this show get on the road?

I sent this email out last night:

Everyone one is being so productive already!

Looks like we have more than enough people signed off to start this
group! I'm thinking that Sunday Morning (whatever time zone is your
time zone) would be a good time to set the points to zero. Zeroing
your points is just setting your starting number for the contest
purposes. So Sunday morning (or Monday morning if you aren't working
Sunday) ,create a card in Points column with your name and your
"zero". Also please comment on the card after you've made it with the
same info so it doesn't accidental get deleted by someone. Two weeks
later (December 8th) we see who has accomplished the most points
between now and then.

And then we will declare the winner! The winner's award will be? Any
good ideas on this one?
