I like the fact that almost everyone here has a functional sense of humor.

The disparate personalities and points of view that are present here.
The low bandwidth friendliness of the site.
The well researched posts.
The fact that it is not Fark, even though I go there regularly.

I like the conversation of ideas that we sometimes manage to create despite all the fuss, because sometimes somebody makes a good point, and makes you think, or posts a good link, and teaches you something

I like the design, and even the little things that annoy so many users (Matt included I'm afraid) like Baby Jesus and Pancakes and kittens and all that

I've come to appreciate those cult threads like you end up liking, sort of at least, the conspiracy theory guy at the office or the drunken regular at your favorite bar, and I have also grown more tolerant of the morons who crap -- or yawn -- all over a possibly interesting thread, or even a mediocre one

I, sadly, like the fact that MetaFilter is tailormade for people who think they are smarter than they actually are, people basically like me

- Those who think clearly and write well.

- Those who listen.

- Those open to changing their views and tolerant of others'.

- Definitely the site design and functionality.

- The unexpected.

- Being exposed to new things.

- Learning something.

- Well-reasoned and/or -researched responses.

- Wide variety of links.

- Consistently beating Sturgeon's Law by a wide margin.

I posted something after drinking. It's the most disrespectful, deragatory thing I've probably posted online, and I got mostly a free ride. I know this will eventually come back to haunt me, so I might as well post it here.

With a few beers, I can be quite the unfeeling asshole, eh? I was thinking along these lines, but still, it's totally fucked up that I posted that in the first place.

I love everything...I love all you guys. I love that stavrosthewonderchicken snarked at my sister and then apologized beautifully for it. I love the whole ridiculous idea of posting while intoxicated. (dead midgets?! I will heartily endorse uma's boobs at any time, tho.)

MeFi has gotten bigger & wilder since I joined (last summer? is it that long already?) but is still my personal choice for great weird interesting things - very smart stuff mixed in with pancakes and ponies.

("...and a pony" is now a standard phrase in my personal vocabulary.)

kisses to you all! (and an extra one for Miguel, who has the same problem with parenthesis that my husband does.)

I like that someone with Matt's sensibilties and design talent hosts a salon-like atmosphere, in this, his virtual parlor and we, his 14,000+ invited guests are welcome day or night, drunk or sober, crude or proper, to read and write and yes, discuss! There's no place like Metafilter, there's no place like Metafilter, there's no place like Metafilter....

i'll be conducting a parentheses usage seminar on sunday, august 4th, at the blue & gold between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. please feel free to stop by and to bring friends. we can also discuss using italics to delineate quotations of previous posts and the merits/demerits of superscripting one's links.
