Assuming you mean the tattoo-thread metatalk, I think I made passing reference to it at one point but we didn't end up digging into it, no. "Difficult Metatalk discussions" isn't an unprecedented topic on the podcast but probabilistically speaking it's always taken a back seat to random fun stuff from the site.

Probably a little more so now that two thirds of the podcast crew don't actually have to keep up with that stuff and we're all a little more in "shit, how are you doing" catch-up mode now that we aren't wading through site/email stuff together every day.

That's by far the more likely situation, yeah.

I totally missed the McDonald's coffee thread, and I'm really glad the truth of that situation isn't dying. I remember when I first heard about it happened, it was immediately and almost universally ridiculed as being frivolous, and I really assumed that it probably was, because hey, people can be sue-happy. A number of years later it was either a documentary or article that laid out the details including the extent of the injuries, and I felt such sorrow for the woman. It was such a light-bulb moment for me in not coming to quick conclusions about things without having all of the information, or because everyone else in the media has come to a particular conclusion based on the same limited information. I swore to defend the lawsuit from anyone who made fun of the situation again in the future.

Space Camp! I went the summer after the Challenger Disaster! It was super-weird!

(Also, Huntsville is only a seven hour drive away. And then another hour and a half and we can be in New Orleans. Just saying.)

This new podcast comes at the perfect moment: we have begun to paint the kitchen and hall and dining room, and I am the Designated Washer. Each night I spend up to an hour cleaning ceiling paint or Kilz out of brushes, trays, and the like. The podcast saved me last night!!

I had an experience very slightly like the June June June thing once -- I was hired to sing a Christmas morning service at a Presbyterian church where the average age of the congregation was about 74, and the organist was someone who knew me, and he said I should sing "He Shall Feed His Flock" from the Messiah, and I said "Okay." This piece has two sections; the first is sung by a mezzo-soprano or contralto, and the second is sung by a soprano. (I'm a mezzo/alto, that's what I get hired to sing, and I've sung the alto solos in the Messiah sooooo maaaaany tiiiiimes.) I have a pretty big range tho so the organist says "Just do both parts, you have those top notes, it'll be great." The piece is only scored up to an F, not a problem, right? We run the first line to check the balance on the high notes in the church, great, solid.

So during the service, I finish the alto part of the aria, the organist makes the key change, I soar into the "Come unto him all ye that labor" part, and realize to my horror that although I have listened to this part of the aria approximately one thousand times, I have never actually sung it before in my life. And to make matters worse, the soprano soloist I'd sung this piece with just the previous week (I was in the chorus for that one) was Harolyn Blackwell, who is fucking AMAZING, and who does all these gorgeous light flexible ornaments, and so that's what's in my ear, and so that's what I start fucking singing despite the fact that this is way, way, way above my pay grade. So there I am, panicked, beatific expression plastered across my face, flop sweat rolling down my back, gliding into the walk up to the high B-flat that Harolyn does like she's ringing a bell, trying to figure out if I can successfully fake my own death in the next half a measure. Lesson learned: no matter how well you think you know the piece, run the whole thing at least once.

I've managed to get mine down to 231 cycles with a couple of revisions and a lot of tweaking (original version took 280 when it was finished but it was pulling teeth to get there to begin with) and man I wish there was some actual, like, web content for TIS-100 so I could make a post about it.

I was amused by the image of Matt being buried in music samples. Even when he was in charge, Cortex was our music guy. Though I don't know whether Cortex would be much more delighted to have yet another slush pile dumped on him.
