“Where’s My Cut?” has disappeared January 31, 2018 4:34 PM   Subscribe

Any idea wher I can find Jess Zimmerman’s piece ““Where’s My Cut?”: On Unpaid Emotional Labor”. Since The Toast folded, I haven’t been able to find it. (Thanks Google.)

Per Nicole Cliffe's Twitter just minutes ago, they're feeling mildly optimistic that they'll be keeping the archives up after all. It sounds like it'll all be resolved for good or ill in the next few days, anyway!

Worked for me too.

You can also read it on archive.org.

Thank you! It’s not too, too much of an exaggeration to say that that article and the MeFi thread changed my life.

That post was so.... I mean, could one of the mods maybe craft a post to the blue which references the old post and its importance and link to the archive.org post? Or edit the old post? I mean, this one thing was A HUGELY BIG DEAL on MetaFilter not only for the people on MetaFilter but also for the people who learned about the thread and read it. Losing the link to the original is kind of tragic here.

If the Toast archives get removed for good (aside from being in the Library of Congress???) I have an offer to republish it elsewhere. Personally I think most of what people got out of the thread actually came FROM the thread, not from the original piece which was just a catalyst! But it will have a permanent home eventually.

The Library of Congress thing is so rad and I'm so glad they/the site were recognized for the massive value they brought into the world.

Yeah, this is one case where I'd be willing to make a quick post-hoc edit to the original post if we need to change the url. Let's see what happens with their actual archives first, though.

babelfish, I absolutely agree about the value of the thread (my wife and I had so many great conversations as we worked our way through), but the value of the catalyst is immense!

Do you think The Awl and The Hairpin will get the Library of Congress treatment? I really hope so.

News! Looks like the archives will be coming back up in the next month or two
