144: Give Myself A Cold Goose September 4, 2018 5:00 PM   Subscribe

In this podcast ep, I talk with Jessamyn about going camping, driving a stick-shift VW camper van, getting a cold, having a cold, and also a great deal of MetaFilter stuff. It's a bit late and there's no music bumpers because I was camping and then I had a cold! But here it is. It's about 80 minutes.

Is there a word for when you miss a post on the blue or in AskMeFi, discover it through the podcast, go to it and leave a comment there for the first time? Podcast-reverse-awareness-commenting, or something?

I'd call it "catching it in syndication" but that'll just make people sad again about Google Reader shutting down.

What’s the word for when you merely see a reference to Google Reader in Metatalk and you are filled with sadness anew about its demise, may it forever rest in peace?

I loved masqueporfavor's fair question! Fairs and festivals are a favorite of mine, and I (finally) gathered up my photos of the Pennsylvania Farm Show and put them together as a virtual tour.

Having read the summary but before listening to the episode, I actually said to a friend, quote, "I also really want to know how they pronounce vesihiisi".

Then the long pause came.

But the actual pronunciation was perfect, Jessamyn! Congratulations on nailing half of a Finnish tongue twister. And I'm glad you enjoyed my little project :)

What's the word for when you're listening to a podcast and the two hosts are trying to think of the name of a song or the title of a book and you're screaming MOUNTAINS BEYOND MOUNTAINS at your car stereo?

Also, I got to work and stopped listening to the podcast just as Jessamyn asked the question about putting your balls underwater last in the bathtub so I'm really looking forward to that discussion.

Unfortunately, I had not seen the thread in question (I had been camping in the woods, whence I got a cold) so I didn't have much to contribute at the time beyond "What? W—no, what?!"

Maybe it's for the best, I wouldn't want you to influence the order in which I dip my balls into a hot bathtub.

"....aside from how GROSS it is??" made me LOL. Thanks for that!

"....aside from how GROSS it is??"

Just came here to make that joke. Imagine my disappointment.

I don’t think I’ve noticed it before, but the image for the podcast in the iOS Podcasts app says “MetaFilter” and then it says “weekly podcast”. (In the description, it starts with Matt’s name, too.)

I’m not saying it shouldn’t say weekly, but it feels like maybe somebody set you a stretch goal 10 years ago and forgot.

I also did not realise that cashman is mashcan! Hope you’re feeling better Josh.
