This was the first year EVER that I haven't heard even a passing reference to the Superbowl from the pulpit on Superbowl Sunday, which I'm just realizing now. Yay!

Between about 0:11:30 and 0:12:00, is that nose breathing?

Hah, "[Dan Brown] is the Guy Fieri of speculative fiction."

I like the post-Projects musical interlude. It almost sounds like it could be a cover, but also maybe it isn't!

I didn't see the Tara thread. Great thread, go MetaFilter!

Hey, popping in quickly to say it would be good to see ellieBOA's name / call-in greeting at the top of the post list.

Hi ellieBOA, good to hear you. :)

Oh, I have not had any luck yet on my inquiry but I've had a couple folks ask if I had any luck. So, no, but I'll let you know if I do!

Also, I found this Etsy shop, but I have not used it so I can't recommend it or not.

Anyway, there are probably a couple people around here who could tell me if my pricing is terribly off (I really had no idea where to start)

Would it be at all possible to get the podcast on Stitcher? I have no idea if that's a big ask or a little ask so definitely feel free to say no.
posted by lazuli at 7:21 AM on February 10, 2019

I have no idea what that would involve! I was under the impression that stitcher was more of a...podcast label? than a general feed portal, I guess, but that's based on just about zero direct knowledge.

I only know of it as a subscription service, but I've never installed the app or anything.

Stitcher FAQ (spoiler: it's super similar to getting listed in itunes and google play.)

I love Stitcher so would love this to happen.

Yeah, I use it for podcast feeds, and most everything else I listen to regularly is on it. (I don't think I have a subscription, just the app.) I think they do make their own podcasts, but all the various NPR shows I listen to are just on the regular feed. It integrated easily with my Sonos speaker, which is why I ended up installing it.

Also I switched to an Android phone, from an iPhone, a few months ago, and have been unable to figure out if I can get iTunes on the new phone, and I use my phone to store and play all my podcasts, so that's why I ask.

My favorite parts in this episode were hearing that the people running the stained glass class are mefites, and that jessamyn got to drive all those neat cars as a teenager! If the car auction story ever got mentioned in a previous podcast, it's far back enough that I don't remember it anymore.

The part that made me laugh the most was hearing the reason for jessamyn's motivation for reading books not by Dan Brown. It also reminded me of one of my favorite teachers in high school, so thanks for that. In my freshman year of h.s I was kind of embarrassed that I still read certain books (mysteries, YA books), and my English teacher said there was nothing to be embarrassed about...something like: If you enjoy it, then it has value to you, and we can't all read Shakespeare or To Kill a Mockingbird all the time; we have to give our minds a break and just have fun. (He also sponsored the school Sci-Fi Club and its sci-fi magazine, never made fun of my awful sci-fi poetry/stories or my weird hobbies, and just made high school more welcoming and bearable. Thanks, Mr S.)

Possible alternate episode titles:
- Too Many Sentient Plant Sci-Fi Books
- I'm Gonna Have This Feathered Hair Forever, and I Am Going to Drive This Car

Almost forgot to say thanks for the nice words about my post for MovableBookLady. In her honor I'm going to try to post a little more this year, which is not technically difficult (I have 1 total MeFi post in my entire time here so far), but mentally a different story. If I make it to 3 this year, I'll be happy.

This was a super enjoyable episode!

I find it so much easier to clean stuff when I'm listening, so I tackled the gross range hood (EWWW) and once I was done put together blown up wedding photo (using https://rasterbator.net/)- it was a nice process of cutting out paper, lining up and using tape to stick pages together. Now I have a nice 4 A4 page wide, 3 page wedding photo up, finally, nearly two years in.

What I like about this podcast is it feels like I am hanging out with friends, and it's warm and funny and comfortable.

Paradoxically, this very internet thing gets me away from my internet addiction because I can't multitask reading and listening to audio at the same time. Thanks!

Check out Cortex's stained glass Menger Sponge, y'all. He's talked about it on the pod and it's nifty.
