Thanks, Women’s World Cup Watching Team!! July 7, 2019 10:49 AM   Subscribe

So, I’ve spent most of my life as a non-sport(s)-watching kind of person, and I’m a little bemused by my late-sprouting interest in football (aka “soccer” or ”assoc”). Anyway, I want to thank the FanFare Football Club for being the best group I can imagine watching a sporting event with, especially one so full of excitement, drama, disappointment, and fun as the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Y’all are great.

Special thanks to the mods for coordinating the Special Events.

Yes, thanks mods! And it was a blast to share the event with other Mefites--especially as I'm not one to go to a pub or special viewing for such things.

It’s been lots of fun! Since I have a fresh wee baby in the house, I have been homebound for the last couple of weeks, and having these social events has been a godsend. Little Hildur was pretty good about sleeping during matches, which either means she’s never going to have any interest in the game, or that she’s already in rhythm with it.

Thanks to you for emailing us about putting up posts! It was a lot of fun to check in on the threads and follow the matches that way.

Adding my thanks for everyone! I attended a wedding this weekend in the mountains so had limited connectivity, so I didn't get to share today's win with MeFi. Though I did get to share it with a random brewery in the Poconos, and it was super great how into it everyone there was.

I especially love how the thread participants are from all over the world and are supporting a variety of teams, while if you watched in a bar or something the likelihood of everyone supporting the same team is high. It makes for a great, layered conversation!
