159: Enter The Talkredoers January 10, 2020 11:51 AM   Subscribe

Kicking off the year with a podcast that tried very hard not to happen, but by god me and jessamyn pulled it off after all, despite reschedules and weird recording problems that cost us a little bit of audio early on. Runs about 80 minutes and features some robot noises.

Hey now. I promise I didn’t fuck it up this time! :)

OTOH, I made some edits rather than just a straight "post to the front page," and - ahem - monkeyed with the post title and that might have done something or other. But it was actually there this time, so win-win?

Heh. Actually, I fixed it after the fact during the podcast recording, so whatever it is that went wrong did manage to go wrong. But at least I didn't misattribute the project itself to you this time, so, we're making progress.

Yeah, IIRC I think it was because I deleted the title markup that's automatically generated because I'd wanted to tuck the actual title text containing the Twitter hashtag into the above-the-fold body of the post.

Oooh! You talked about one of my posts, I feel special.

And, actually, I might be one of the people Jessamyn was referring to re: the LL rules thread, because I recall making a post in that thread that was in the vein of "maybe if you are carefully considering how you're going to behave on this site based on what the punishment might be, you're taking the wrong approach".

Ha, yes probably. I have so little idea of who from MeFi is over there.

In Re: StackExchange. Monica was 'fired' for violating the new CoC before the new CoC was even a thing. Granted she was being transphobic, and so are most of her supporters.

Thanks for mentioning the Chanukah primates! I had fun being a primate nerd and I'm glad some other folks enjoyed it!

I am sorry that the robots from StackExchange discovered your discussion and attacked it in real-podcast time. (ALLEGEDLY!!)

We have a page on the wiki for people who are comfortable sharing who’s who on Metafilter and LL. I also have my own private spreadsheet on my local computer where I try to keep track of the people I know/refer. Despite all this I know who maaaaybe 50% of the people on the MetaFilter private rundle are. There are just so many of us!

(If you want to join the MetaFilter private rundle, I just now remembered to set it up for LL84, so hit me up in MeMail.)

My ask is on the podcast. Neat.

I'm slightly fascinated/concerned by the flags and the discussion of it was in good faith or not that were mentioned though. I hope it didn't upset anyone.
