Biased reading of article? October 1, 2002 10:48 AM   Subscribe

READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE.

Some people are letting their politics get away with them. And it's not like they're a newly minted user either.

What's up with that?

Cursing aside, I was expecting you to link to XQUZYPHYR's user page. His post equally lets politics get in the way.
posted by machaus at 10:57 AM on October 1, 2002

Why read the article? It's just someone else's opinion, no better and no worse than any opinion expressed by anyone else. Oh, facts. Well, maybe the article has facts. Hell, maybe some of those facts may be relevant.

Er, uh, what was the question?

I agree with machaus...and this isn't the first time that XQetc. has become much too engrossed with his/her own emotion concerning the topic...glass houses and all.

Actually, I think we can divorce politics from this altogether. Read taumeson's original comment again, and only the obscure last sentence hints at his political views (and, as I read it, he and XQUZYPHYR would be in anti-Jeb agreement).

So that just leaves a Slashdot-esque profane screamer, who comes across as if everyone who has posted before they have is an exasperating moron. Very attractive and conducive to further discussion.

I've got nothing against cussing. Nor all caps, occasionally. But put them together to signify advanced rage about a matter that isn't life and death and it is literally repellent.

THE

HACKLY_FRACTURE?

For the record, I agree. People should also take a few deep breaths when they find themselves on the verge of imploding into non-existance with unbridled anger brought about by the comments of others.

Though I do admit to liking the occasional anger-filled diatribe. It lends a certain rhythm to the writing.

Ok. You, quit the name calling. You, quit the swearing. All of you quit the tattle-telling. Just pretend you have to face the people you are conversing with/to and treat them accordingly.

What if you normally shout and swear at the people you converse with/to?

Websavvy, get yourself an "issues-oriented" talk show.

posted by hackly_fracture at 12:55 PM on October 1, 2002

websavvy, that would be OK, then.

But.. does that mean I have to pretend everyone is staring at my hunch? That's what I was trying to get away from!

Man, it took me forever to figure out you were going for "modicum". I kept thinking you were talking about roads.

XQetc is right... whats-its-face (the yeller) was so heel-bent on spewing that it missed the fact that the article he's so eager for everyone to read is from a follow-up to the post in question.

Aack.

Doesn't everyone know that being an asshole is one of those "24/7" things. I'm all-for shouting and name-calling.
posted by Dark Messiah at 3:37 PM on October 1, 2002

That's hell-bent.

Heel-bent is a yoga position, I think.

I don't care if XQ's link was partisan or not, or whether it was even a very good link. The guy who shouts "READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE" is automatically the bad guy.

Would RTFA been more appropriate?

Argh. "...have been more appropriate." Time to quit posting for the night. One too many Jack Daniels...

The God Complex touches on this, but I believe the correct usage is:

READ.
THE.
FUCKING.
ARTICLE.
{insert name in ALLCAPS}.

So...is everything that comes out of Irontom's keyboard going to be turned into a MeFi in-joke?

I would like this added to the signup page, the guidelines page, the posting page, the comment preview page, and the forehead of every last goddamn one of us.

Su -

I certainly hope not. Especially not the ones where I lose my cool so thoroughly. Although I am trying to have less of those. Really I am.

I don't know, you guys are overextending the original meaning of the WTF Matt? phrase...

READ.
THE.
FUCKING.
ARTICLE.
{insert name in ALLCAPS}.

That's almost correct. For the record, however, it is supposed to be

WHAT.
THE.
FUCK.
{name in ALLCAPS}?

With no italics.

Thus, Joey Michaels and The God Complex are both partly wrong. Ha! Also, I declare this thread moot, although I think the thread has already DQ'ed itself and asked for a recount.
