My MeTa post is disappeared October 25, 2002 1:40 PM   Subscribe

Hi....I posted a URL the other day that was similar to metafilter, and so I thought MeFi was hacked for a minute there. When I realized the typo, I was relieved! I wondered if other people had found similar sites. But the post isn't there. I'm just wondering if that was a server glitch or just a lame post that was pulled. No worries, just curious for my own edification.

do you mean that you posted a link that ended up pointing to the metafilter site instead of what you wanted? that happens every now and then.

I remember your post. I'm 99.9% sure that mathowie deleted it.
posted by timeistight at 1:59 PM on October 25, 2002

I'm with timeistight: I bet it was deleted because it was deemed to be substandard, or uninteresting, or lame, or crap, or all of the above, by the site's administrator, Mathowie, or Matt

Just like this thread

Please, when _this_ thread gets erased too by Matt, don't post _another_ MetaTalk thread about it

Please?

Modem Ovary posts crap link.

Crap link gets deleted.

Modem Ovary posts crap link wondering about deletion of crap link.

Rinse.

Repeat.

This is in no way to be construed as a snark against Modem Ovary personally. Please direct all flames to: MiguelCardoso@drinkingscotchandwearingavelveteensmokingjacket.com

Why can't this person ask a question, for goodness' sake??

sheesh, is it that time of the month for ALL of you?

konolia, speaking only for myself, I agree with timeistight above - I remember seeing the post, thinking "hmm, bet Matt deletes that", and then not seeing it again later, and putting it out of my mind. Likewise, I'd imagine that everyone else above did much the same thing. When Modem Ovary re-inquired, I'd say we were all just reminded of the earlier (deleted) thread, and again thought "hmm, bet Matt deletes this one too". The silliness ensued, which I don't think anyone meant as mockery to M.O. If my immediately preceding joke was taken as such by anyone, I apologize.

It does, however, bring up the point again that deleted MetaTalk threads aren't around to be seen in lofi.mefi or anywhere else, and although I can think of several good reasons why they shouldn't be, this may be one reason why at least some of them should be. So, maybe there's a point to be discussed here after all.

Comments? Or is this a dead thread?

Damn it, Davis...

Strange, I don't even see it on lofi... Modem Ovary, what was the link?

BTW, folks, a careful examination reveals that Modem Ovary has posted 1 thread and 2 comments to MetaTalk in the last year. Rather extravagant. But I feel certain that, now duly chastised, she regrets such wasteful squandering of precious MeTa resources.

it was a MeTa post, which wouldn't appear in lofi. And when MeTa posts are deleted, they no longer appear in your posting history, fyi.

So conceivably I could post a bunch of goof ball MetaTalk posts-- which would then be deleted-- and my permanent record would be squeaky clean.

No offense taken at all. None to be taken, as my question was duly answered. I erroneously assumed that MeTa was more lax and conversational inasmuch as The God Complex could post a thread stating that he had another shower this morning if he so desired. I erred in neglecting to peruse MeTa a little more to get a feel for what goes and what's crap. My bad.

In retrospect, the original thread was as uninteresting as a papercut. But in my defense, I did post this thread in the etiquette/policy [Wondering what should or shouldn't be posted on MetaFilter? Think someone went too far? Talk about it here.] section.

Thanks for answering my question. Okay Matt, delete this thread!

You should be permanently banned.

Dear Sirs,

I wholeheartedly object to the next comment. I feel it is completely non-representative of MetaTalk standards.

This is true, now that you mention it. I think she should be exempt from Snarkery from here on--she's obviously immune anyway.

Trust me, I would if I could. I look good when I'm zestfully soapy.
