What's the difference between Post Title and Link Title? November 15, 2002 9:05 PM   Subscribe

So, um... what's a POST TITLE, and how is it different from a LINK TITLE?

I asked (kind of) the same question a few days back. Matt (obviously) hasn't done so yet, but it probably needs a little more explanation on the post page. Essentially, the "post title" gives the thread a name of its own, instead of a generic number (that can't be easily tracked by, well, sites that track these kinds of things). At least that's my understanding, such as it is.

Yeah, I've been meaning to improve the posting page all week.

Yeah, I've been meaning to improve the posting page all week.

Apart from ample imagery of the 144, 000 beautiful --and naked,
I should hope--virgins, not to mention the whole interactive tactility thing therein related, I should think the Hi, Iconomy! part should be a built in feature.

As usual, I agree with y2karl.

Could I make a small suggestion? Could the page title read something like this:

MetaFilter : 123456 : Thread Title

Where the 123456 would be the thread number, for those of us who like to bookmark the thread, and keep them in some sort of order. Or maybe those numbers could the the date [xxxx.xx.xx ?]. Just my $.02. Oh, and could you add ponies after the Hi, Iconomy!, I think that could be cool. Thanks

Just to clarify: The "Post title" becomes the <title> element's content in the HTML of the post's detail/discussion page, so it becomes that window's title. This also means that if you look in your browser's "History" list or "Windows" menu, you can tell which page shows which post instead of trying to distinguish between N different "Metafilter | Comments on 23456" titles.

(Also, right, yhbc: it'll help search engines index post-detail pages by subject.)

The "Link title" is just the text at the start of the post that is linked to the "URL".

It would be nice if there was a way to distinguish window/page titles for the MetaTalk threads as well.
