#3000 (was a long time ago) January 14, 2001 10:53 PM   Subscribe

Speaking of MeFi's growth, I spy upon logging in tonight that there are 2,997 members. Will there be some sort of swank party to celebrate the joining of #3,000 or will the lucky so-and-so just get a year's supply of Turtle Wax and a copy of "MetaFilter: The Home(page) Game"?

Well, given that we have recently marked the 2000th member, methinks that it won't be long until we welcome member 4000.

Perhaps we could have a pool to guess the date (and closet time) of the 4000th member. My guess: February 27, 2001, 7p.m. PST.

Member 3000, who is also member 3001, joined to post one of the funniest things I've read here.

Even if we celebrated the User Count roll over, instead of the user numbers, we missed it. :-) 3011 as of this time.

Perhaps we should plan in advance for number 5000? :-)

I guess this is the closest thing to another prediction contest. No prizes?!? Well, I'll guess user 4,000 will come April 1, 2001 as a joke of some sort. 5,000 will come by mid May. Then the spike. 10,000 by late August and what Alan Greenspan calls "Irrational Exuberance", we'll see a sudden fluctuaion in user numbers. Some days higher, most days lower. As features continue to grow the use, links, comments, name calling, the "my.metafilter", and the voting becomes too much for many and finally a $1, one time "Metafilter fan club" starts the true membership. The more addictive to crack slogan is then investigated by the SEC, FDA, and DOJ all finding nothing wrong. Again, don't hold to these predictions. My presidential outcome, and Superbowl were WAY off. Giants 17 Ravens 24.
