Can't log out December 18, 2002 12:04 PM   Subscribe

Am I the only one having trouble logging out? I click "logout", and it just spins me around to the homepage, and I'm still logged in. Tried closing the browser, rebooting, etc. No dice. This has happened on multiple computers (public ones, unfortunately) that have previous had no problems with logging out.

Open the computer's case and wave a big magnet around. That should pretty much solve your problem...

Disclaimer: I know how to get rid of the cookies if I really want to. I'm just wondering if there's a bug in the cookie killing script.

Let me work on this today, I'm pretty sure I know what the bug is.

Okay, you can work on it, but don't neglect the rest of your duties. And I want a full report on my desk before you leave tonight.

Oh, and next Friday...is Hawaiian shirt day...so, you know, if you want to you can go ahead and wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans.

It should work now. I think I fixed metatalk's logout as well.

Sweet! I fixed all the old problems in one swell foop:

- if you login at either MetaFilter or MetaTalk, you are automatically logged into both sites.

- when you logout of either site, you are fully logged out of both sites.

Great. Take the rest of the day off.

Yup, works for me.

Actually the login unification works, to log out I still need to logout individually.

Woo-hoo! Thanks, Matt. This was driving me nuts (well, okay, that's a bit of an overstatment) for the past week or 2, but I didn't post to MeTa b/c I just assumed that it was my lousy IE setup. (Which means that while I now have one less thing to blame on Bill Gates, I still have about a thousand left on the list.)

Cool - been a bugbear of mine that I have to log in and out at two locations. I have great plans for the extra 3 seconds I will now have on the third Monday of every third month, which is the only time I log out.

Seriously - thanks for this and every other tiny fix that you do without us even knowing, mathowie.

For those who came in late: Wendell's site is called OneSwellFoop.

I'm guessing this is related to the recent changes: when I hit the front page, I'm presented with the logon form. Without logging in, I can't read the front page at all (once I login, it's fine). Metatalk does not give the same problem.

(note: after logging in, then logging out, I can view the front page with no problem.)
