San Antonio meetup? January 13, 2003 3:39 PM   Subscribe

OK, so the thread about the MeFiNY gathering has me feeling envious and alienated (in a good way?). I can see from a search of users that there are plenty of people logging in out of Austin, but is anyone besides me from good ol' San Antonio? Could a MeFiSA be possible, even if all it aspires to is coffee at Jim's?

Hmm... I'm smelling coffee for one ;-)

Just kidding - I too missed out on the NY gathering, and am jealous. Lame, stupid Los Angeles, it's like on the other side of the world from NYC!!

botono9...i am in new orleans but would drive into austin, houston, san antonio, etc. for a MeFiTX meetup.

there was talk on #mefi about a meetup somewhere in Texas a while back, so i'm pretty sure there are others besides me who would be interrested.

New Orleans?

Did someone say "MetaGras?"

Jonson, we've had a couple of MeFi Los Angeles meets, but with nowhere near the turnout (or, apparently, fun) of a NY shindig.

I'm always up for another, and I know Eyeballkid would show.

better watch out that people don't confuse the MeFiSA for the always popular MeFiSEA.

Part of me hopes I'm the only MeFier from San Antonio. I'll be one of a kind!

I'm in Houston. . .let's work this thing.

I'm more comfortable around my own race, though -- can we have someone manning the door?

Um, that was a joke, by the way.

Does the W3C need to add to the list of semantic tags? We can all just view the source and be relieved that we needn't fill mathowie's hard drives with yet another diatribe!

Back to the topic of a MeFiTX meet. It seems like Austin would be the ideal place to have this, seeing as it's central to the major cities (Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston) and has a plethora of places to gather.

Why don't you all just come to Los Angeles? We have a bunch of delicious burger joints. {humorous Texan-baiting} Plus, not so many damn Texans around, to irritate you with their Texan ways{/humorous Texan-baiting}.

so all my MeFi peeps from Texas (and the surrounding area), if there is enough interrest, when do we propose this meetup take place?

I would certainly second a MeFiLA meetup!

I'd gladly go back to my roots for a little MetaMotown.

For the MeFiTX meet I would suggest sometime this spring when the weather will be nice (here's hoping). March or April? We need some time to make sure everyone knows about it.

I will be in LA for a few days around Valetine's Day, would this time be good for anyone else for a meet?

Just to be clear, when you people say "LA" do you mean Louisiana? Or Los Angeles?

Cause I can't make it to Louisiana.

Hmm.. Now that I've looked at some profile pages, I'm thinking you all mean the city of angels, as opposed to the state of Tabasco. That being said, the 15th (day after Valentine's) is a Saturday. I know I'll be in town... Sounds like a couple other people will. Who's up for it? And where's a good place?

botono9: hmm...how about the third weekend in march, say the 21st or 22nd? any thoughts on where to actualy have the MeFiTX meet? (austin or houston i am guessing.)

Many of the Dallas MeFites come to the DFWblogs monthly events, so, in a way, we get together regularly.

I bet Mathowie and many other MeFites are in Austin the second weekend of March for SXSW.

The 15th is fine by me jonson. Where is a different story, since I am not from there. Open to suggestions. Anyone else want to get together in Los Angeles on Feb. 15?

Feb 15 in Los Angeles- yes. I vote (selfishly) for West Hollywood or Hollywood. But then, I am also willing to travel.

Oooo!! SXSW! I always miss it. What a nice opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.

Ack! Feb. 15 is my birthday! Which is lovely and all, but it means I already have plans with out-of-town friends. So if you other city o' angels folks want to get together that weekend, raise a glass for me. Otherwise pick the next weekend, and I'll raise a glass with you.

In the past, we have gotten together at Renée's Courtyard Cafe in Santa Monica. Email me if you want to chat about it.

I live in Austin and I'd love to get together with any group of MeFites who want to hang. Yes, SXSW is scheduled for March. Perhaps an evening at a local restaurant could be planned for all willing MeFites to meet. There are lots of good options. We need to get organized and make this happen... I get the feeling that MeetUp.com has completely fallen off of everyone's radar, and we need a better solution anyway.

Is there and Austin or Texas community blog?
