This thread asks for links. I thought MetaFilter was about providing good links, not asking for recommendations of good links.

I agree; I was going to say something in the thread itself; glad I didn't. I'm surprised that someone with such a low user number would post something that seems so very out of touch with what the posting guidelines are.

Seems obvious someone is looking for work and asking mefi to help with the research, but attempted to make it look like a discussion thread.

He may have a low user number but his experience seems to be lacking, judging by his low comment count. Not that that means anything.

What does a low/high user number and/or comment count have to do with the relevance of a thread, or the acceptability of something a person posts?

i agree that it is probably biz related - either looking for work or looking for fresh blood for contracting (doubtful). but i have some sympathy if this is a lame way of trying to "network" on mefi. i recently had to start looking for work and have often wished there was a way to use this sort of peer pool to help each other out. but in the end i guess this just isn't that kind of place, and probably shouldn't be.

Dude, there's ANOTHER "Stan Chin"???!?!?

Also, re: innapropriate use of Mefi - a year ago I was in an online photo contest, and I came in second. It was by popular vote, and the first prize was a $10,000 Best Buy gift certificate. Second prize was a lame digital camera (which I already had) & a free copy of Windows XP Pro (which I also already had). I was so close, so tantalizingly close that if only I had access to post to a message board with thousands of members, whom I would beg and plead to vote for my picture (which was of my dogs, and was insanely cute), I'm sure I'd be watching tonight's episode of 24 on my new Plasma television that I didn't end up buying 'cause I came in second and didn't win the money.

I guess what I'm saying is that had I been a posting member at that time, would I have been tempted to post a begging self promotional request disguised as a regular post? Probably. But I would have been flamed to a crisp, the post would have been deleted and I would have been too ashamed to show my face round these parts.

Same Stan, respectably low user number, no? (as I recall)

Really? Why does he have two? Is this something to do with his undercover work in Atlanta?

I wish I had two. I'd spell the second one "Johnson," and he'd be much cooler.

heh. Those Raelians thought they had the first clone, but all the while Mefi's own Stan Chin had beat them to the punch.
