MeFi Goes Medieval - An August Meet-up Proposal: more inside...
posted by anastasiav to MetaFilter Gatherings at 2:11 PM (15 comments total)

I know that a number of my fellow Metafilterans share a hobby of mine, and might be attending the SCA event The Pennsic War August 1 - 17th. Would anyone be interested in holding a MeFi meetup there?

Given the venue where you're posting this, isn't that redundant? :-)

jonson, one note: its the kind of thing you'd have to be already going to ... and I'm pretty sure some other people here are. The entrance fees are high (they're on a per-week basis) and you're required to wear medieval-style clothing.

Huzzah!

Out of curiousity, I've notice that all the MeFi meetups are proposed in a city -- this is the first one that isn't. Has anyone ever tried something like this?

I know some really great camping spots in California, Utah, and Arizona (even one or two in Nevada)....

So you're saying if I just show up in my Star Trek costume I won't be welcome? Even if I wear the Vulcan ears?

If you speak elvish, you might get away with the ears...

What if it's during the Pon Farr & I really desperately need to mate? I understand there are frequently bosomy wenches aplenty at these so called SCA events...

You would have to make sure not to alter their course of their civilization, for one thing.

If 2,000 years of progress haven't done it, a pair of plastic ear extensions aren't going to make a dent.

yes, but those are vibrating plastic ear extensions.
