Wonder if that's one ping that MeFi's backend is duplicating, or if (more likely) the other site sent two trackbacks? There probably ought to be code to filter out the latter case, if there isn't now, but what to do if two trackbacks from the same site are not quite duplicates? Only allow one per domain (or subdomain)? That would work best for probably 95% of blogs out there, but anyone whose URL is something like www.somebigisp.com/~username might potentially be out of the loop...

Someone got a weird error that looks to me like it's from MeFi's end. An error like that after saving the TrackBack would make MT say/think it needs to reping. Sorry if it's completely not that, though.

I haven't put in logic to delete old trackbacks and only use the latest, so duplicate trackbacks both get posted (the code on Blogroots is tighter).

I dunno what's up with the weird error, I could probably stand to review the TB implementation here, I did it in one night when they first launched it. I noticed they use different (richer) metadata for trackback info in MT blogs now, I might as well start improving the stuff I have here.

Hell, there's 3 trackbacks on this link - http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/27108, all from my site. It generated errors when I trackbacked this link from my site, so I retried twice more... that may be a clue...

The duplicate referred to was sort of my fault, since I posted it, though in my defense I used Adam Kalsey's (free so not complaining) SimpleTracks tool and on the first Submit I got an error, so sent it again. I should have checked the MeFi page before doing so, though. Apologies all around.
