Connection refused? February 22, 2004 9:06 AM   Subscribe

Connection refused? This morning (around 7:30 AM PST) I wasn't able to access metafilter.com or ask.metafilter.com, although I was able to ping the same names. Looks like some others were having the same. Was there an issue?

Yeah the web server died at some point in the night. It happens once every few days, usually in the daytime and I can fix it quickly.

There are still some bugs to work out.

I just had the same problem ten minutes ago -- I could get to metafilter.com and ask.metafilter.com, but metatalk.metafilter.com gave me a "Connection Failure" error message. I could get to individual MetaTalk threads, though, via my user page. (It's working now, obviously...I was going to post about it on MetaTalk, but couldn't get to MetaTalk to do so. D'oh!)

My connection gets refused once every couple days or so, for anywhere from a couple minutes to most of the day.

Is it my breath?

I thought it was me, not you, jennyb. I was literally pushing the button this morning to post my first link in many months, after being up since 3a, and things went dead. Hmm . . . I said. Seems a bit extreme (although maybe not a bad idea) to shut down the whole site just to keep me away.

After the last downtime, I still haven't been able to access the site for a couple days (until now). Thankfully, I rarely have anything of any real import to say, so the balance struck while I was here seems to have been maintained.
