Deliveries in DC

I've got a friend from Chicago unexpectedly laid up at George Washington University Hospital in D.C. I'd like to get her something besides flowers, and have it delivered. Any suggestions? While I'll entertain suggestions about interesting gifts, what I'm really wondering about is the delivery aspect. Is there a Kozmo-like service still running in DC? Is there a, I don't know, bookstore that makes house calls? etc. I know I could try to use a taxi/courier service, but that seems like more trouble than it's worth to do remotely.

Have you thought about using Amazon to ship stuff to her? Books, candy, jewelry, well muscled pool boys...(ok, maybe not the pool boys...those are hard to fit in a box)

But, seriously, if you've got her room number, I would think Amazon, or any analogue of amazon would work.

Sorry. DCs got no Kozmo. We do have Peapod and Ala Carte Express, for what it's worth.

What the hell--shoot me an email, and we'll work something out. Seriously.

Response by poster: I ponied up the $22 to send $33 worth of books and electronics overnight via Amazon. Thanks dejah, and thanks especially to the DC-area volunteers, whom I couldn't bring myself to inconvenience but whose willingness to be inconvenienced is really terrific.
