will there be a Minneapolis meetup? When? Where? July 23, 2004 6:49 AM   Subscribe

On July 6th a thread was started about a potential Minneapolis meetup for August 1st. The thread seems to have died, will there be a Minneapolis meetup? When? Where?

Make it August 14th, cause I'll be back in Mpls for a visit. ;-)

I will be out of town August 1 but would enjoy seeing the gang of lovable losers fellow mefites m'self.

I've sort of grown attached to 8/1. But that's just me.

A later date would actually work better for me, too. Sometime after the 8th. However, if there's to be two meetups, I guess I could make both. If I can afford the gas.

I'll be gone 8/14, but should be able to make 8/1. Other dates are relatively open...

Come on folks, joke's over. It's been almost five years since it was revealed that Minneapolis doesn't exist. (And I've become a better writer since then)

I didn't the thread died -- I think it was established that we would do August 1st, around 6 PMish, at Brit's for Lawn Bowling and there would be a reminder thread later.

I think it would be a better idea to stay with the August 1st date, and then make an additional, even more casual get together for possibly the 14th. What does everyone think?

Ooops, just noticed we never actually established a time for August 1st. I'm not sure where I got 6 from.

Because that's a good time to start drinkin'.

I agree that sticking to Aug. 1 is probably the best idea, with maybe a followup on the 14th.

OK, for us somewhat out-of-towners, assuming that Minneapolis actually exists where do we find Brit's?
posted by substrate at 3:38 PM on July 23, 2004

Here's a link. I've never been there, but it seems pretty easy to find. If you need more specific directions from your starting point, I am not the person to ask as I'm shitty with geography.

Also, we should probably call and reserve a lane, as someone suggested. I should probably do it since I'm bringing it up right now, but I thought I'd see if I could lob off the responsibility first.

Also, for the Aug 14th: why don't we just meet somewhere for drinks or dinner or something?

Thanks Zosia. You weren't kidding about being easy to get to.

Thanks to work demands I can now make the 14th, but not the 1st (flying out that night, almost spot-on 6!). Count me in accordingly!

I'm roughly 70% sure I could make the 1st, and about 90% sure I could make the 14th.

I'm also 100% sure my life has been in flux lately (see definition 5, not definition 3), so actual performance may vary.

Side note: We should've had an Aquatennial fireworks meetup. This evening was swanky.

Well, it seems like the 14th is a better date all around. Should we just do that?
posted by Zosia Blue at 10:17 PM on July 24, 2004

The 14th is fine with me.
posted by substrate at 10:18 PM on July 24, 2004

Blar. I'm really a fan of the first, but if it'll make things easier, I'm flexible.

Damnit, I just cleared August 1 with my girlfriend after reading only the top half of this thread! We're in Madison, WI, but had wanted to make a weekend trip to Minneapolis this summer, and a meetup would be a great excuse for actually doing it. The 1st would be splendid for us, but the 14th is right out, since that's the day I'm moving into a new apartment.

I quite like Zosia Blue's original suggestion of having a meetup on the 1st, and those of you who wish to can get together again on the 14th. But, I'm just a Wisconsinite, so you don't have to listen to me.

Heh, okay, let's just do it that way. So, how about we take a general poll:

Who's in on August 1st for Lawn Bowling at Brit's?

And, who's in for something to be determined on August 14th?

I'm good for both of them.
posted by Zosia Blue at 10:49 AM on July 25, 2004

I'm up for either date myself.
posted by substrate at 12:41 PM on July 25, 2004

I'll be there for both.
posted by esch at 1:31 PM on July 25, 2004

I'm up for August 1, along with a player to be named later... err, my girlfriend, Liz, who reads the site sometimes. Thanks for being accomodating!

Oh, I would suggest someone putting together a list of the Twin Cities-area Metafiltarians' e-mail addresses, via the zip codes in their profiles. I did this when we were organizing a Madison-area meetup, and it got some people there who wouldn't normally read Metatalk.

Crikey. I'm now out for both. Work flight on the evening of the 1st and in-laws' get-together on the 14th. Bleagh!

It appears that bowling on Sundays is first come, first serve.

So what time are we arriving?
posted by esch at 11:59 AM on July 26, 2004

How about 6:30?
posted by Zosia Blue at 3:30 PM on July 26, 2004

I'll be there with bells.

See you Sunday.

6:30 sounds grand - see you folks then.

I'll probably be there. I will not have bells.
posted by mrbula at 3:08 PM on July 28, 2004

Aww, come on, mrbula, you know how cute you are in bells.
