I never thought I'd be writing to you, but I wanted to tell you about the hot action at the SF MeetUp last night. [more inside]

I walked into the bar a little shy, not knowing what to expect. I figured it would be the usual cavalcade of hairy-palmed uberdorks. Then, I felt a hand on my thigh. I turned to find of bevy of luscious MeFemales in various states of undress. Blondes, redheads, and other colors that may have been from Out of Space. I protested that I was married, but it made no difference to these wanton women. On and on, with only occasional breaks for Shepherd's Pie and Guinness.

I would have taken pictures, but a night like that is to be savored as a thing for gossamer memory, not cheapened by pixellated RGB.

The Miguel-on-Matteo DVD has been optioned by DreamWorks and will be packaged, Kill Bill-style, with the forthcoming Matteo-on-Miguel extravaganza currently being shot in Valparaiso, Colombia. Void in states where sodomy or love of Mizoguchi is prohibited and (temporarily, we hope!) currently outlawed by the Homeland Security Act but scheduled for release following John Ashcroft's resignation.

For those who can't wait (though the loss of two vowels as important as "e" and "o" may be too much for connoisseurs, fully aware of the Matteo/Matt differences), there's always "Matt Does Kottke VIII" or "Matt Takes On Little Green Footballs" at bargain prices, with a free Icelandic travelogue (starring Bjork as your guide to eating whale and reindeer without the hassle) thrown in. ;)

I wouldn't be so pernickety and precious, Matteo, but José is about the most common name in Portugal - more popular even than João - and, since we are, after all, co-starring in Matt's fantasy, I thought it was only proper to point out that the fact that Giuseppe, although blessedly unaccented in your own lingo, somehow didn't manage to filter through to the Lusitanian provinces your Roman ancestors so fruitfully colonized, thereby creating people like me who love their bacalhau. It was, as any coastal Norwegian will tell you apposite, with a dash though the letter "O" and a garbling sound.

If I told you José Verdi was the most popular composer in Portugal, would you laugh?
