Holy crap, I think this is the first MefiMeetup I can make since I moved to NYC over a year ago. I am tingling.

6pm? on a weeknight? Sheesh, some of us have to work, meh!
Well, I might try at catch up with you folks at 9 or 10.
(although the sheer amount of drinking required to catch up at that point is almost daunting in itself.)
posted by milovoo at 8:25 AM on November 19, 2004

Weeknight? It's friggin' Friday!

milo, you know we'll still be rollin' along when you get there. But yeah, you'll probably have some catching up to do.

(I'll email you my cell #. Call when you get out, on the off chance we've moved by then. Which I doubt, frankly. But still.)
posted by chicobangs at 8:34 AM on November 19, 2004

I'll be there a bit later.

As with the papercake twins, I'm missing out on this one. I do seem to be getting over my bug, though.

/bitter that i can't come socialize tonight with you fine fine mefis due to previous engagements. I am therefore submitting a proper request for another NYC meetup sometime after thanksgiving, but before christmas.
posted by naxosaxur at 9:52 AM on November 19, 2004

ok naxo--we can make it a combined amberglow/jonmc/etc bday thing too (we usually prefer cash/easily transportable stones) : >
posted by amberglow at 10:31 AM on November 19, 2004

My birthday too! And see everyone soon.
posted by dame at 11:02 AM on November 19, 2004

I'm disconsolate, previous engagement here, too. As a newbie and a fan of d.b.a., I would have been honored to knock back a few with NY MeFi's.

Please, yes, again?
posted by thinkpiece at 11:12 AM on November 19, 2004

oh that place sounds like it has good drinks. i fear im not a regular enough mefi poster and commenter to go. though im so curious.

that rollerskating thing sounds like a good idea
posted by amberglow at 12:17 PM on November 19, 2004

Do you have to bring your own skates?
posted by lilboo at 12:35 PM on November 19, 2004

It isn't as fun as it looks if you actually know how to rollerskate (though it is very close to my house, so if you go, there's that perk). The room is small, lots of people can't skate worth shit, and even more idiots like to stand in the worst possible place. However, if you look at it as something that has nothing to do with actually skating, it's very fun.

On preview: No, they have free skates. But you have to get there early or wait for other people to get sick of theirs because there aren't enough to go around.
posted by dame at 12:38 PM on November 19, 2004

OK, I read it again, looks like you have to get there early or bring your own. Words to the wise.

Drubken rollerskating?

My word!
posted by chicobangs at 12:42 PM on November 19, 2004

posted by jonmc at 12:48 PM on November 19, 2004

we'll have to do a Roxy night then.
posted by amberglow at 12:49 PM on November 19, 2004

(or maybe ice skating? when's Wollman opening?)
posted by amberglow at 12:49 PM on November 19, 2004

What is this Roxy? Is it real rollerskating? Can we have our birthday party meet-up there and do the hokey-pokey and everything? Please please please? (I like books & drinks as presents.)
posted by dame at 12:56 PM on November 19, 2004

or maybe ice skating?

Whee!! There's also two rinks at Chelsea Piers and Rock center probably opens soon.

How about we all just go to bed, bath and beyond and have a spontaneous pillow fight?
posted by jonmc at 1:08 PM on November 19, 2004

commmonn rollerskating. no its not as fun as it looks especially when people spill beer and you bust ass. its got a sort of "skating in the house" sort of scary vibe. but uh, yeah!

fill a backpack with drinks and lets go.

ok im more seriously considering the meet up. but im scared. be kind!
posted by c at 1:34 PM on November 19, 2004

i am so down for rollerskating. you have no idea.

Even though it looks like lilboo is giving me her number, she is actually drawing a diagram to illustrate the tension between aesthetics and capitalism.
posted by bingo at 12:34 PM on November 20, 2004

Just one of the many illustrations can I provide on demand; for example, next meetup I will attempt to diagram a history of Marxisim in Latin America, 1900-1940, plotted against a background of the economic data from that era. And this time I'll bring a goddamn pencil with an eraser.
posted by lilboo at 1:28 PM on November 20, 2004

It's true, all of it.

The fact that she was able to explain all that stuff in exactly seven digits was merely a coincidence.
posted by chicobangs at 1:36 PM on November 20, 2004

I apologize for the poor drawing skills on the hairless cooch. I just haven't seen one since I was a kid.
