someone told me in a place that im, er, not allowed to mention (...damn GOP) that Matt said somewhere in MeTa that there is a limit on how many questions you can ask per day, but i havent been able to find it. I was wondering if there would be a problem with me shooting off a few questions in a row that ive had saved up for a long time. I dont want to abuse the system so i ask first. I dont plan to ask silly questions like what colour of underwear to buy or what the weather is today. (hope nobody asked those questions). Ciao!

I'd ask no more then twice a week if I were you. Or you'd get a bad reputation.

I would like to have one question a week limit, which hasn't been coded yet. I know you have been waiting a long time, but seriously, don't spend all your community capital on day one. I would strongly suggest hanging around and helping a few people answer their questions, searching the archives for similar topics, then asking only once in a while.

This does a couple things - keeps the front page of Ask MetaFilter from scrolling into the abyss every two hours, and it doesn't grow any resentment to you from users feeling you are overusing the community, shared system.

We're all in this together, and you got to ask a question last night so I'd say lay low for a while.

(btw, I love your username, if it's a Bob and David reference. To be named after a bit part in a single sketch from an obscure comedy show is hilarious.)

ah, very good sir. if bob and david is mr show, then thats where i got it from. yeah its the only clip of mr show that ive ever seen, and i wasnt even watching it, my brother was watching it and i was on the computer, probably registering for some website... the best way to come up with a name is to use a speech typer and have it come out with hilarious stuff. thats how my friend found his name. He was talking to someone on messenger through his speech typer, and 'Fox Taiyo's Senseless Magic' came out. He knew right then and there that some people are chosen for greatness...

Good question and I applaud your asking it. As with many decisions, it is bounded by the default negative threshold which operates as follows.

1) You are asking if it's okay for you to do something.

2) Half the people will say no, don't do that. Half the people will say sure, go ahead.

3) And if you do go ahead, half the people will pounce and call you an idiot for doing it. But the other half, who approved earlier, will NOT rush in to applaud you as a hero.

So, basically, the moral of the story is, no matter what you do, you're going to have half of the membership calling you an idiot. But don't worry, the joy is in watching which people are in that half fluctuate over time.
