email for an art project December 22, 2004 1:40 PM   Subscribe

What's up with the profile pages? Every one I check has this at the bottom left of the page: email for an art project

As does the preview stage of posting a new thread. Maybe I have some issue with my computer and this should be in the green ;P It seems strange that it would only show up on those pages, however, if that's the case.

It's on every page in the blue. I imagine Matt typed something into the wrong window at some point, and it's saved in the page footer template.

I see it too.

"What memo?"

Look!! It's "Metafilter" spelled backwards!

Yeah, I misspelled it in my link. Now anyone following it to send obscure e-mails will fail. I have failed the human race again!

Is it time to check for pods in the basement?

So who's emailed for the project yet?

Maybe its a secret message from the Praetorians?

Has anyone tried ... and this is purely a suggestion, not legal advice or anything ... actually emailing the address?

I know it sounds far-fetched, but it just might work.

I have just now e-mailed the address. May the untold secrets of the Divine be lavished upon me.

Nope, emailed to it a half hour ago and the only thing I got was Construction News, the newsletter. That didn't seem right though so I'm guessing it was spam, the email, not the address.

the art project is to test the 1gb limit of a gmail account.
posted by modofo at 2:32 PM on December 22, 2004

The art project was to see how many minutes it would last before someone posted it to Meta.

It's always time to check for pods in the basement.

Someone wrote a really cool net graffitti project that basically projects any email received, and this person asked if I could stuff a hidden email link somewhere on mefi to get it primed.

I was going to make a post leading to our gallery de spam art on Monday, after the spam started rolling in. I'll make it tiny 1px font no one can see.

Now you've got to give up the url. Seriously.
posted by monju_bosatsu at 3:04 PM on December 22, 2004

This sounds cool.
posted by The God Complex at 3:05 PM on December 22, 2004

naw, if I tell you guys, you'll fuck with it, when it's funny as-is with typical spam. I don't want to see it goatse'd to death.

Aw geez, now I feel bad about all those awful things I said about some of the members in my test email.

And yeah, it does sound cool.

See? This is why we can't have nice things.

"if I tell you guys, you'll fuck with it"

Matt, speaking as the father of three teenagers, I strongly urge you to remember this phrase. You're going to need to repeat it A LOT in the next 18 years, I guarantee it.

Wow, you don't see "font-size:2px" just every day.
