This is a pretty dumb comment.

Who should get a blog? The person who posted the article? The person directly above you? Matt? Me? Please be more precise in the future.
posted by Optimus Chyme at 1:31 PM on January 5, 2005

braun_richard, who posted the thread in the Blue, should get a blog, because most of the content of his FPP is his own ranting about some obscure little article. He didn't post it so that others could read it, he posted it so others could read his rant about it. Sure, he put it all in a [more inside] but his own blog would have been a better place.
posted by scarabic at 1:36 PM on January 5, 2005

I think he was just excited about the whole blogging phenomenon and wanted to show his excitement by demanding we all partake in this revolutionary new medium.
posted by KevinSkomsvold at 1:36 PM on January 5, 2005

Incidentally, I'm interpreting jefbla. I'm generally a fan of braun_richard and don't have a strong opinion on this.
posted by scarabic at 1:38 PM on January 5, 2005

Sometimes I like to pretend that the person who posted the FPP is not the same as the person who posted the first comment because then I don't have to post "get a blog" every other thread, which is really, really boring.

yeah, a lame comment. I nicked it.
posted by mathowie (staff) at 1:48 PM on January 5, 2005

When the first post in any FPP is also by the original poster, I pretend that it is by a different, non-related person, so that I do not feel the urge to post "get a blog." I do this because saying "get a blog" is dumb.

I agree entirely, and this speaks to an issue that has been bothering me for some time - perhaps I will start a MetaTalk thread about it soon:

The vituperativeness, impact, and technical quality of Nasty, Dismissive, and Trollish comments has declined markedly around here. I'm not concerned here with the quantity, which seems to be fine, but the Clarity and Extra Flame Damage. This used to be a place one could count on for some good textually skilled pugilism and get-under-your-skin-for-days snarkiness. Now you're lucky to see a decent reference to the socio-political biases informing a commentor's perspective - and that done clumsily.

Are we really devolved to improperly capitalized, flaccid sentence fragments such as: "you suck","Get a Blog", "you're comment is whats wrong with MetaFitler"? Surely we can agree to some baseline standards of scathingness and incitement?
posted by freebird at 1:51 PM on January 5, 2005

The original poster shouldn't be making the first comment anyway, in my opinion, unless the comment is simply to provide additional information to the post.

"The post is yours. The thread is ours"... that's how I look at it.

Argh! Deleted comments chafe me.
posted by Saucy Intruder at 2:28 PM on January 5, 2005

Sidhedevil: careful there. Some of us have begun internally referring to it as 'MetaFitler' out of sheer force of habit and not as a genuine Hitler reference at all.

It's like that time in 5th grade I had a principal named, in all seriousness, "Dr. Siemens", and my teacher was "Mrs. Neville."

In two seperate instances friends of mine got three days of detention for calling them, to their faces, "Dr. Semen" and "Mrs. Devil" without realizing they had done so due to the frequency with which we (and hell, some of the other teachers) referred to them as such when they were out of earshot.

Ahh, crikey! Can we PLEASE get something to note that the comment being discussed has already been deleted? I've got Chicken-with-its-head-cut-off-itis now! Running around trying to find that stupid comment.

Oh well, maybe I should try working instead of reading MeFi all day.

Frrrreeeebird, the stunted nature of what must be called - only because no more accurate terms manifest themselves for such a awkward and dysfunctional bundle of drooling instinct and seething ignorance - your intellect, and your wanton disregard for civilized discourse, are clearly illuminated by your incorrect use of the singular in your stumblingly idiotic and counter-productive comment:

"The vituperativeness, impact, and technical quality [...] have declined markedly around here."

Jesus Christ.

I think the n00bs need to chill the fuck out with the goddamn callouts. If your reg date is 11/x/04 or later, I really could give a flying fuck what you allegedly think.

Comparisons to Mussolini invoke "Il dio vince la legge".

And, uh, keswick? I don't think the callouts are specifically for your benefit, but we do appreciate you letting us know your opinion. I'll circulate a memo.
posted by Bugbread at 2:55 PM on January 5, 2005

Ah, and apparently mathowie seems to have agreed enough that he deleted the post, which pretty much de facto validates the callout.
posted by Bugbread at 2:58 PM on January 5, 2005

I think it belongs on RantMe, oh, there isn't one ... well there should be.
posted by milovoo at 2:58 PM on January 5, 2005

I'm sorry, but it takes a lot of chutzpah for somebody who has been around for 2 months to waltz in and tell everybody else what to do, and it seems like most of the callouts lately are from the n00bs. Yeah, yeah, you've been lurking since 1999, you just never registered an account. Cram it.

r.

keswick, your continued swearing is neither illustrative nor demonstrably beneficial to your rhetoric--additionally, your continued, and unabated, negativity casts a pall over the proceedings here. I would ask that you reform yourself for the betterment of not only yourself but those around you.

Mostly sincerely,

Yeah, it does take a lot of chutzpah. I don't have chutzpah, hence I don't call out.

And I dunno why I have to cram it because I didn't register an account. Equally stated: "Yeah, yeah, you've been registered since 2002. Cram it." Doesn't make a lot of sense either way, eh?
