Where to put Askme Followups February 3, 2005 7:41 AM Subscribe
Matt, should we use MetaTalk to follow-up our AskMe questions? Or should we use AskMe? Or neither?

Aside: I strongly urge those who convinced Matt to take down the SG ads to pony up a little cash for him. posted by Pretty_Generic at 7:43 AM on February 3, 2005
Bside: I strongly urge the use of email for messages addressed/meant for only one person. :P posted by nthdegx at 7:46 AM on February 3, 2005
It wasn't really, I just meant to bring it to his attention. posted by Pretty_Generic at 7:47 AM on February 3, 2005

IANM, but if the update is going to be in regard to the thread just mentioned, can't it just go in that thread? It will still be open for commentation. posted by sciurus at 8:35 AM on February 3, 2005
Post it in the original thread, unless it's closed, in which case there's been some precedent for MeTa, but not much. posted by jessamyn at 8:47 AM on February 3, 2005
If a thread is still open, post it there.
I need to think of a way to do followups in a separate system for ask mefi eventually. posted by mathowie at 8:49 AM on February 3, 2005
Monkeyfilter's most recent posts and comments sidebar is great for dealing with this problem. Threads stay alive with out taking up real estate. posted by TimeFactor at 9:02 AM on February 3, 2005

This would be valuable, as I tried the answers in my last question and none of them worked. I don't want to post the question again and I know that asking in that thread will get zero responses now that it's a few days old. posted by knave at 10:06 AM on February 3, 2005

Matt how about letting the original poster close the question and when they do it gets bumped? Wouldn't seem to be much of a risk of abuse in AskMe. Maybe make a format change on the page so those who aren't interested can scroll by. Or instead of bumping have a side bar that shows recently closed questions?
Knave don't despair, I can't be the only one who reads the recent archives. Take a browse in the archives and you'll see quite a few answers made a week later. posted by Mitheral at 10:46 AM on February 3, 2005
How about an AskMe option to "sort by last post" so you can check out recently updated questions, no matter how old, if you're interested? posted by agropyron at 1:23 PM on February 3, 2005
