SXSW meetup

SXSW is coming soon! Hey guys, let's have a meetup! I'd love to meet all you out-of-towners, plus any Austinites I haven't met, plus the nice folks who showed up to the one Austin meetup I have known about... So, let's start some planning so we can make this happen, shall we?

Someone suggested a venue that is within walking distance of the convention center. I am willing to do some research and find somewhere that meets this criteria... Please share your thoughts on what night would be good, etc. I think we all can have a great time.

I'll be in town from the 11th to the 15th. The whole time will be equally busy, so any time is good for me as long as I can get there without a car. (I'm staying near the convention center, so downtown=good.)

What amandaudoff said. Somewhere on 6th, perhaps? The Paradise was kind to us last year.

In the past, it seems that most of the meetup-gathering-venue things end up in the lobby bar of the Omni Hotel - I think it was because there was good, free wifi to be had, so 200 Mac-toting nerds could hang around, drink and look at things on the web. However, I've since stayed a couple times at the new Hilton next to the convention center. Really, really nice bar. I realize not everyone likes hotel bars, but for convenience/proximity, nothin' beats 'em.

Alas, due to recent financial constraints, we will not be attending this year.

P.S. - Cabs are cheap in Austin, too, if you need to go somewhere.

I'd love to momentarily poke my head out of lurker-ness, but, alas, will be in chicago most of the week. If you end up doing something the prior weekend (the 11-13) I might be able to join you all...

I'll be in Austin from the 12th to the 15th.*

I'm driving to SXSW this year (from Minneapolis!), so I'll have a car available if need be.

*Technically, I'll be arriving on the 11th, but after 1100+ miles of driving, I doubt I'll be up for anything other than finding my hotel and going to sleep.

If anyone is still paying attention here, keep me informed of any plans. I live here (in Austin), but might be out of town then. If not, I would certainly be up for meeting some folks.

Cabs are cheap in Austin

it cost me 9 bucks just to get out of the damn airport last year! cabs in austin are more expensive than cabs in nyc.

I look forward to meeting any of the mefi folks that can make it to Austin. It is a city full of friendly and intelligent people, at least up to the moment they get behind the wheel.

I can pick up at the airport, and I am also available for storng, conservative, fact based commentary. What else is better than a night of storng commentary? HA!
