Has mathowie gone commercial? June 12, 2005 11:20 AM   Subscribe

Disclaimer: This is something you need a TV to know about...
Has anybody but me seen a commercial for Volkswagen (apparently SoCal VW Dealers, but maybe showing in other regions) in which the salesman outside the car is pointing out all the comfort features to the wife in the driver's seat while the husband on the passenger's side is just using the power seat to go up and down and up and down? You'd know it if you saw it, because the actor playing the husband is (to me) a dead ringer for Matt Haughey (including the glasses). I can't find a video of that commercial online anywhere, but I wonder if some actor is going to make a career out of impersonating Our #1... (Or is the resemblence just another sign of my worsening dementia?) Dammit, they are the same glasses!!!

Spaghetti: #1 is Matt Haughey, aka mathowie, also known as the Creator of MetaFilter, or MetaFilter Member #1

I got a extra ranch potato chip with an image of #1 on it yesterday. I ate it.

Blogging is the new blogebrity. I'm gonna write a blook about it.

I met a friend of one of my GF's friends at a divebar where someone's ex-boyfriend's band was playing, and she was wearing "those glasses" and I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying something like "So, where's your blog? Livejournal, Blogger, or Typepad?"

At least until she was out of earshot, anyway. Nice enough girl, but I'm pretty sure the internet has ruined me. I actually spoke aloud the words"This phone... it vibrates?" last night at a drive-in.

I couldn't track it down, wendell, but I did find this MP3 file of Boris Karloff's Beetle ad.

Demystifying Public Service Announcement: SpecialK, I don't think Spaghetti's comment was a real question; that's a line from the show The Prisoner

I see Haugheys everywhere I go, man. Pheonix, Barstow, Wichita and Omaha... Haughey's everywhere, man. Hey, who's that mowing my lawn? You guessed it, Haughey again.

Haughey is in your jeans.
He's in your cheesburgers.
Haughey is in Nutty Buddies!
Haughey is in your mom!
He's in everybody.

He's in the young, the old,
the fat, the skinny,
the white, the black
the brown and the blue
people got Haughey in them too.

Haughey is in everybody out there.
Everybody's got Haughey in them.
Everybody except one person that is,
Yeah, one person!
The evil opposite of Haughey,
The Anti-Haughey!
Anti-Haughey* got no Haughey in him,
lemme tell ya.

* No Haughey in him but the Anti-Haughey does have a trout in his trousers.

Haughey
You can see him
In the clouds up in the sky

Haughey
Floats by in clusters
In our water supply

Haughey
He's in all of us, man
In our pores and in our hair

Haughey's
What we conceal
With these corny clothes we wear

Haughey is all
Haughey is divine
Haughey is control
Haughey whips and chains our soul

Haughey-We carry credit cards
Haughey-We live in fear of art

Haughey is the -OM
Haughey is revolution
Haughey is the tapeworm
In the bottle of cheap tequila
That comes alive at night
And sneaks up
And bites your nipple

The power, of Haughey

Wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, mathowie'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, mathowie'll be there. He'll be there in the way guys yell when they're mad. He'll be there in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they built - mathowie'll be there, too.

Oh for Christ's sake. Look at this mess you people have made (begins singing the villain's song)

*To the tune of "This Fire" by Franz Ferdinand*

Songs, boring a way through me
Sterilize, this site completely
Now there is a fire in me
A fire that burns

These morons, are out of control
I'm going to burn this website
Burn this website
These morons, are out of control
I'm going to burn this website
Burn this website
These morons, are out of control
I'm going to burn this website
Burn this website
These morons, are out of control
I'm going to burn it, I'll burn it
I, I, I'll burn it down

tddl: #1 works for the betterment of mankind (and a few womankind) by providing Meta-everything, the showcase for the best of the web, by the best of the web, and for the best of the web. hmm That makes #1 sound more like Spiderman than Abraham Lincoln, but it is so sweet it sets my teeth on edge.
Hey Matt, remember someone wanted the outcome of Askme posts published? Did you ever go to the dentist?

I saw the ad and did not think of him. Although I was somewhat creeped out. it was all like "Let's buy this car and fuck in the seats, bitch."

Seems like the kind of car a liberal SF living web designer would buy, though.

Not me though. It looks like a damn corolla.
