I used to enjoy surfing MeFi members' sites by using the Links, links, links! page but it seems to have been non-functional for about a year and a half (data is out of sync with user pages and no new members listed since January 2004).

Matt, any plans to resurrect this feature to include the newer members (and possibly get the info in sync?)

I know I changed my URL in February, and checking just now, it showed the old one. So it's definitely not dynamic.

I've been waiting that long before coming to meta :p
And you'll notice that the member's sites are not listed in random order, rather they are listed highest, #17357 (bashos_frog) to oldest, #1 (mathowie), bashos_frog joined in January 2004 the next member with a specified site is #17359 schoolgirl report who joined in January 2004 also.

The page was over 1Mb of HTML and even though I used to only create it once a day, it would still often timeout when trying to display 15k records.

I just changed it to something much more efficient that grabs 100 random URLs.

Neat! I'd not noticed this page before and checked it out today for the first time. My own wee blog was the second to last one listed!

But I am only getting a listing of 30 random blogs, not 100. Not that I'm complaining as there's plenty of new territory with this smaller set.

The query is grabbing 100 users, but then only displaying those that have a URL, so that's sometimes 30, sometimes more.

I don't know from mosch. Maybe someone could say that some things shouldn't be stretched out past their prime and cite Miles Davis' long career disapprovingly (or, contrariwise, someone could cite it approvingly in support of long threads—I myself don't know anything about Davis' career after, say, the mid-70s). Then, once he came up, someone would mention his general assholishness and meanness towards women, maybe heroin use. Then we could get into a long unfocused argument about expecting artists to be even halfway decent people?

Can you guys dumb down the trick a little? Unlike the example in the link, you're seemingly using plain img tags, rather than javascript...that part appears easy. But the encoding is not base64 like the exampple? ??Just url-encoded?? Is there an easy-bake oven tool to do the encoding, say given the image url as a parameter?

Enter the image's URL into that third "HTTP URI" field and hit "Generate". It should bring up a page with a hyperlink that is the new, encoded image. That link goes into the img tag directly after the = . No quotation marks necessary.

I couldn't get to Faaav-ray as he was surrounded by a gaggle of 18-ish year old, bikini-clad fans at the hot tub....

No, wait, that was Chewie. I dunno about Bret, but I can tell you that the Green Bay women's curling team will kick ass this season. You should see the new facilities they have. Almost as cool as the longboats.

Apologies to the NE Wisconsiners on board. I'm still really tickled by the accent and culture after not experiencing it for a few years.
Cranberry, not to worry, we're good Midwesterners and feel that Swiss would be an exotic cheese if it weren't for the Olafsens next door who put it on their grilled cheeses for special occasions. We were thinking of a nice plate of cheddar and jack and some kraft singles for the kids. Mrs. Fez is still giddy about that wine those Barles and James guys put out because she thinks they're oh for funny. I'm more of a Strohs kind of fella, but have been drinking the lighter stuff these days on account of my middle. So for the wine, we'll see how that goes.

At any rate, it should be a good party, youbetcha. The Vander Laanens have already confirmed and they're real nice folks who you should really meet.

If it's anything like the rest of Wisconsin, August algae. I'm a Milwaukee guy myself, but Green Bay was one of the first settlements in the state (is was settled before MKE), by Soviet fur traders I believe. The name means "Whale's Vagina" in French.
