Is anybody here going to SIGGRAPH?? Any interest in some kind of meetup-type-thing?

If no, but you're in LA, can you recommend a Thai noodle shop nearby? Army surplus? Pretty sure this is the location.

I'm not going to SIGGRAPH, but I'd do a meetup. Toi isn't a favorite of mine, but it's not horrible. How late in the day does the conference go?

I haven't been to Toi so I can't comment on its quality, but it's certainly nowhere near the Convention Center downtown.

Normally I'd absolutely be up for a meetup, but next week's pretty busy for me already so I can't make it -- but I hope all you crazy kids have fun if you do arrange one!

LA has been fantastically disappointing for me in terms of Thai restaurants. Toi's fine, but nothing spectacular (other than the cool rock & roll atmosphere). If only Portland & Seattle's Typhoon had a Los Angeles location. Best Thai food I've ever eaten, by far.

Absolutely the Best Thai Restaurant in Orange County. (Self-link). Please note that the Stanton location is closed now. Go to the Garden Grove place. Worth the drive!

Wow, jonson, you must have gotten some bum steers. LA has some of the best Thai food in the country. For super-authentic and cheap, try Sapp during the day, Sanamluang anytime, or Palms Thai when it re-opens. For more California-y Thai home cooking in a hipper atmosphere, try Tuk-Tuk on Pico.

Toi, for the record, blows.

Actually, I've not been to any of those, thanks very much mzurer! One of the bum steers, amusingly enough, came from mathowie himself, who claims here that the "best thai food in LA" can be found at Emerald Thai on Venice. Perhaps the quality has declined in the post Haughey years, but I found it to be just sorta good, nothing spectacular. I'll be sure to try your suggestions, and thanks again!
