I have a proposal for political arguments that might make them more productive: a limit on how far one particular detail can be discussed. A problem I noticed on

I nearly hit "post" a few minutes ago

I can't post another question for another 6.5 days. Shouldn't I just ask the questions in the thread while it's a fresh topic instead of posting a new question in a week? Or should I just suck it up and wait?

I Like Ponies: On the user page, where it says "posted X questions and X answers to Ask MetaFilter", it would be very nifty to add a counter of how many "best answers" this user has received on AskMe. It'll be a positive way to increase the signal/noise ratio -- and while it may provoke some competition, it'll be competition to be the most helpful and comprehensive, which should lead to good things for Ask MeFi.

Question: what constitutes a double-post? This is easy to answer for
websites, but it seems to be harder for NewsFilter posts. One person recently argued that a second NewsFilter post on a previously discussed topic isn't a double if it offers a different
perspective. However, I'm not sure that argument can be made for the topic of
this post, which has already been
discussed twice. So is
every news article on a topic fair game for its own post? Early returns indicate that the discussion isn't going to be much different from the first two go-rounds, so what's the point? (yes, I know this is a
double post).

Now that bloglines is away to new corporate overlords (hopefully, to not be destroyed in the process), I find myself wondering when the other services I like will get gobbled up.
Personally, I'm curious - Matt, will you ever sell Metafilter?

Is a
triple post okay if you
knew it
was one? (The person who posted this must have known, since the
search included in the post shows it.) Is it okay if there are a few more links included this time, and the text is on a different site now? Finally, is it okay if the goal is simply to elicit more discussion on the topic, as it seems to be here?

Is there etiquette on commenting in your own posts (FPPs?)? I'm exercising restraint - don't want to end up on
Noobs Gone Wild. Looser in the green than the blue?

Maybe this was covered and I missed it, but why do individual AskMe threads not have unique titles? When I bookmark a Metafilter thread, it has a unique title but when I bookmark an AskMe thread, I have to change the title.

Two things:
1) When is turning a
comment into a
FPP okay? The poster acknowledges it as such in the FPP itself and the old thread is still open for new comments. Shouldn't the new links be added to the old thread?
2) Also,
pepsi blue.

I just updated the server to CFMX 7. If you see any obvious weird errors, toss them in here.

Hi Mefites. I'm sorry I won't be able to make the Atlanta meetup or the Jeopardy tryouts. I'm really upset...I was hoping to meet all of you and see Atlanta, but it's just not going to happen. Some unexpected money things have come up and it's one of those really-bad-timing things. If the tryout was a month later, it'd be no problem. As it is, it's impossible. Thanks for all the good wishes. I'm sure I'll try out sometime in the next year, somewhere, somehow.

The person posting
this today seems to have made similar mistakes in links as the person who posted
this five days ago. Just wondering if the mistakes can be identified and better avoided.

There was a thread a while ago (on the green I believe) about a mefi member who had a friend who was considering becoming a police officer. I've tried searching for the thread, but can't find it. Does anyone have a link for it?

Last alluded to
here: None of the redesign entries (unless I missed something) addressed the
"comments by user" page, which is probably the clunkiest and least usable feature on the site.
Long comment histories take forever to load (and tax the server); and you can't actually see any of the comments without clicking on each individual link. I think pagination, plus an ability to preview the actual comment, would be a great help.

I'm highly interested in the new design of Metafilter. Is there any chance we could get a preview? I understand that we were able to view the winning designs, but I was under the impression that it would incorporate elements from all of the good ones, so I'd like a peek, as I'm sure the rest of the site would.

PST slippage in the blue... Occasionally my time reference on MeFi gets whacked back to PST, though my preferences are EST. When I see the problem, I edit my profile (changing nothing), submit and ta-da, EST. Don't need no pony, just bringing it up. Happens ~ once a month.

Hey, why is there no link to askmetafilter on 'the blue' as you metatalk hipsters call the main page? You have to click metatalk and then click askme.
FIX IT

Despite some recent messiness, snarking and call-outs on the green and the grey, I (as a noob) am impressed with the recent examples of true connection and "kinship" as exhibited by the
life altering experiences thread in Ask MetaFilter (and discussed further
here) and the
heartfelt advice given to a frightened 20-year old who is about to enter a treatment center.
In the same spirit of recalling
favorite migs moments, can some of the longer-term folks share memorable moments where MeFi has demonstrated such “poignancy” and support to fellow MeFites?

I've been too busy to hang out on the metafilter irc channel, so I just wanted to say hi to all the cool people there. Is there any way one can access that without downloading an irc client?

Given the fairly high usage and value of many of the threads, isn't it time for Ask Metafilter to be promoted to be listed on the Blue? The link in the sideblog to
this amazing thread is a clear sign that it's ready for primetime. How about it Matt?
posted by tommasz to MetaFilter-Related at 6:09 AM PST - 36 comments
Now that the sideblog is back in action, would it be possible to get an RSS feed for it? If this would involve a lot of work, just put it somewhere on the list of Ponies, but I'm wondering if, since the sidebar is powered by Blogger, there might not already be some sort of automatically generated feed that I just need to point my reader at.

Matt, I'm not trying to be irritating here; but I am wondering, if you're not going to update the sideblog anymore, is there any reason to keep it? (And for the more anal among you, yes I'm well aware that it can be collapsed).

Matt's clearly not being compensated adequately for the time and $$ he spends on this place, and the avenues open to him are apparently distasteful to many of us. As fun as it is to complain about SG, it might be even more fun coming up with a way to replace the SG revenue ourselves. -->

So yeah,
suicide girls. After some teeth gnashing, and asking all my female friends about taking on suicide girls image ads on mefi, I decided to take them (they seem tasteful to me -- I dropped the ones showing too much skin) with the caveat that a simple click and anyone could hide them forever.
Here's what I said when I took their first textad long ago and the same applies here. They are as racy as I will go, and this won't start a slippery slope as they're the exception to the rule.

Count of posts tagged with a
particular word isn't accurate. The count is how many times the tag appears, even if it appears more than once in a given post. This would throw off the "most popular tags" statistics.

Is there a way to add words to the spell checker???

I don't think the site in
this deleted thread belongs to the poster. The names don't match up, and neither do the writing styles. He just improperly quoted the phrase "The Goleta Air & Space Museum is just my web site." While not formatted very well, I think the link holds up to scrutiny.
