One thing that annoys me about long MeMail conversations is the lack of threading; before services like GMail and Facebook, which thread messages, this wouldn't have been such a big deal, but anymore I find it kind of irritating to have to click through several pages to read old messages in a thread. So how's about some conversation threading in MeMail?

Is there any way to browse the Ask archives a day at a time? Browsing by date (e.g. http://ask.metafilter.com/archived.mefi/10/01/2006/ ) currently brings up an entire month at a time, which is rather unwieldy.

Is there an easy way to get to Metafilter's lofi version? I'm at work and must filter. But even a google search for "Metafilter lofi" can't get me there.

The end result of
this question just needs to be preserved as a "wonderful AskMe moment." Crushing problem solved in a way neither of us would have considered if it hadn't been for the suggestion in AskMe. Now we know, and the other credit-card-ignorant will know too when they search!

What would be the reason someone would want to
close their account? If someone didn't want to "belong" to this "community", wouldn't someone just quit posting to the site, and reading it? And what of the posts someone has previously posted? Would a request to delete all of someone's own posts be complied with?

Mefi's Own Baby_Balrog: "Stephen and I traveled to Bilin, near Ramallah, on Friday. [...] IDF soldiers began firing CS gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets at the marchers [...] here's a video of me running away when the soldiers started firing gas canisters [...] I had my jump kit with me and tried to help a few people [...]" He's writing a pretty fascinating blog.

Today just happens to be my one-year Mefi-versary! In honor of this, I thought it might be fun for some of you old timers* to tell me about your favorite thread, post, question or project. MeTa tends to be kinda stuffy -- let's let the light in here and have a little fun, neh?

I'd like to suggest that the "related questions" feature of Ask appear in the preview stage of posting a question. It may cause the asker to find their answer pre-posting (great for people who suck at searching, like me!) or rephrase their question in a manner that's more helpful and therefore cut down on the asker having to clarify repeatedly in the thread.

Looks like you're searching for an exact phrase. The local search doesn't do that so well. Why not?

Well, I've seen this type of phrase around, and it hit one of my questions.
"This sounds like a legal question. You should really ask a lawyer."
I think it's legit to ask legal related questions here. One, someone may have had experience with the situation. Two, there may be a friendly lawyer around (hey, I've given free advice for my areas of knowledge).
When someone asks a question about what song was being played in this movie or whatnot, wouldn't it be rude or just useless to respond with, "That sounds like a music question. You know who could answer that? A DJ!"
People might as well just put "I dunno" or "me too". "IANAL" is one thing, answering to say "don't ask me" is just fluff. Yes? No?

Is there any way to identify threads that contain comments by me and another user? I'm picturing a world where I could click on someone else's profile, and there would be a link "conversations you've had with this user." I suspect I am missing something, but I can't find it.

I know a MetaFilter swapsite or Craigslist-y thing has
been suggested before, but now that I have a thing burning a hole in my pocket that I'd like to give to an interested local Mefite -- like, today -- I'm wondering if it's time. I'd like to sell or give away things to you, and I'd like to buy stuff, too. I'm pretty sure that we could do some really interesting things with this, like what Miko did with
her $9 something offer.

From whatever mod deleted it, I just wondered why my repsonse to
this post was deleted, and what exactly is so offensive about it that it needed to be removed. A Mefi mail is fine, but if you want it public that's OK too. Thank you. Truly, I don't care about the deletion, but am truly interested about the policy/ethics involved.

I don't understand why
some of the answers to
this question aren't being deleted. They are expressing their opinions about whether or not it's appropriate to give children psychiatric drugs, or what drugs have worked for children they knew, and that wasn't what was asked.

A few weeks ago, there was a
post about two Muslims about to be deported from Britain. Today in AskMe, the poster
reveals that one of the potential deportees is a friend of his. Shouldn't this have been disclosed at the time? Is it okay to make posts about your friends?

We're doing another call-in show for the podcast this week so we need people to call in some questions for us to answer (ideally, in the next 24hours). Click the giant CALL ME button on
the podcast sidebar, plop in your number, and grandcentral/google will ring you up and let you leave a message free of charge.

There appears to be a bug on the
recent Flickr photos page. I've seen this bug regularly, though not every day. Today's example is a repeated picture by bibliowench on Jun 9th, 2008 and bevedog on Jun 9th, 2008. Both are displayed as "Omeka stickers", both link to the same external Flickr page. I am running firefox on macos. (I don't read MetaTalk much, so I apologize if this is a known bug. I did do a quick search for a posting about the same topic.)

In your preferences, if you select a month and year for your birthday, but not a specific day of the month, you get an error message. Could that be changed so you have the option to fill in only the month/year?

Over the last few months one of the Metafilter regulars has produced a number of comments demonstrating an above average grasp of the democratic parties political process as well as an above average ability to articulate that understanding in to language that highlights the substance of the comments.

Not sure if (justifiable) politicsfilter objections trump history in the making, but I don't know whether this merits an FPP or not. Hence it seems legit for MetaTalk, even if only to get a moderator to rule on whether we can have what I think will be an FPP comment thread for the ages.
But dammit, Barack Obama, the son of a Kenyan immigrant and a Kansas farm girl,
is about to be the nominee of the Democratic party for president of the US of Doggone A, and it is a moment worthy of of being marked and reflected upon for many in this community, I am sure, regardless of our political commitments.
