Just to engage in a probably-futile disagreement with cortex's decision

Would anyone be interested in creating a Metafilter University? What I mean is a series of courses (or they could be short, TED-like lectures) specially geared towards Metafilter members? By which I mean they'd be more than just videos posted to YouTube. There would be some way for members to interact with the lecturer (and other members) about the course.

If I were writing
this AskMe, I would have stopped after the first sentence, labelled it "NFSW" and put the rest inside. The level of detail the OP provide above the break is already enough that I cringe at the thought of a coworker seeing me read it. Am I being unreasonable, or is this just one of the few that
slipped by the admins?

"All posts are © their original authors." This is unfortunate. It would be great to see MeFi supporting Creative Commons and the free culture movement.

I AM IN ICELAND (and you should be too): I've got a bunch of free time on the 29th and so does Great Swell, can we meet y'all before or after we go to The Pearl at 8? We're staying dead center downtown and up for anything (but we do have to leave for the US the next day so not ANYTHING anything) Also we're free after 5pm on the 27th, Sunday, if that is better.

Forgive me if this was asked before (I searched the FAQ), but I see a lot of people asking questions in AskMeFi who have never commented. Why are the guidelines different from MetaFilter (where you have to comment a certain number of times before you post)? I understand that some people are lurkers and we want to be accepting of that, but it seems like a lot of the questions which break the guidelines could be avoided. Maybe I'm just a whiner?

Any Mefites in Milpitas or San Jose want to get together Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday next week (June 28, 29 or 30th)? I know there is a San Fran meetup for the 1st of July, but we'll be flying back home that day.

There was a question asked within the last year (I think) that was something like 'Why do people have pets if they know they are going to die before they do? How can they handle the grief?" There was a response post to the question explaining that love for a pet was unique in that you go into the relationship knowing that, most likely, you will outlive the pet and that therefore this is a noble kind of love etc. etc.

I'm looking for a story about a person who slept with their best friend who was having trouble finding a woman, but regretted it because the friend lost their confidence as a result. It was in askmefi.

Considering how many of us wear glasses, I'm pretty sure we should be fielding a pub trivia team here in Houston. Let's have a meetup and see how it goes! Maybe it will be a fun night of nerdery. Maybe it will become an institution. We'll never know until we try.

Ok, so whenever I hit Ctrl+Shift+A anywhere on Metafilter, a little thing pops up saying "Please enter the site you'd like to link!" What? For what? Is this a feature I was never informed about? By the way, I'm running Ubuntu Lucid, with Firefox.

While not disagreeing that it was esentially a stunt, I thought
this post by orthogonality was rather good, with the lack of context, the reaction to the material out of context and discovery of that context being features rather than bugs.

Under the flickering torchlight, I saw my quarry: the golden contacts reflecting as they lay against a papyrus scroll from the Library at Alexandria, the dust having not yet covered it completely. "Eureka!" I cried. "All is not lost!" My perilous quest through dust monsters and over yawning chasms and fighting through moldy skeletons had not been in vain. I had reacquired the

I have expertise in X, but I don't care about A-W, or Y and Z, so I don't check the green very often. I also just asked a question about F, and I'm sure there are F experts that steer clear of the green for the same reasons I do. AskMeFi moves fast. Faster than ponies?

Pony request: MeFi notification of deleted posts - Because I always forget I can look in my history to find the missing post. Seems like it would be "easy" (for unknown values of easy) to kind of do the same thing for deletion as for addition. (Maybe I'm just oversensitive, having had two FPPs deleted in the last month.)

I have noticed your interesting quirk and it interests me! Why do folks copy and past someone else's comment in a thread and then add a "This." or a "A million times this." to it? Don't favorite counts indicate "This."? If everybody "This."'d for every comment they agreed with, threads would stall and go nowhere - it'd just be an endless recycling of the same few comments. Perhaps this is not a big deal and I have simply woken up grumpy and overly sensitive. Or perhaps you have noticed this trend, too, and wish it to stop?
Commence with the copying, the pasting, and the "This."ing!

Mefite
Jaltcoh sent me a MeMail the other day reminding me of
this old comment in a thread about palindromes, where I say, “Gotta say, I’m a big fan of palindromes. My entire career, marriage and life might all be very different if not for palindromes. I’ll have to tell you about it sometime, say January 2, 2010.” In the MeMail, he asks, “It's now past January 2, 2010. What's the story?”
Forgot about that old post. With that big of a buildup, I wish it were a better story, but here goes:

The
crux of this FPP is a Supreme Court decision (concerning a male-on-male attempted homicide) that allegedly curtails the testimony of SANE nurses in rape cases. The Court's decision, as linked, uses the word "rape" twice, both times in the phrase "tried to rape [her]". However, that document does not use the words "SANE", "nurse", "medical" nor "doctor" at all. The only link that appears to connect SANE nurses to the Court's decision is behind a paywall and we only have the OP's interpretation of that document. Does this make for a good FPP?

This FPP's typical and relatively successful feminism discussion devolved into a mano a mano between DNye and myself. I admittedly took his bait and
engaged; my bad. This led to DNye's
epic 3,600 word comment (plus addendum and corrections). I'm trying to disengage in that topic
1 2 as I try to avoid pissing matches these days. He wants to keep on fightin'
1 2 so I'm asking him to bring it here.

Is there enough meat to the Bros Icing Bros meme to make it a FPP? Even if it turns out to be some crypto-viral marketting campaign by Smirnoff, it's an interesting social phenomenon IMO.

I have posted eight questions total on AskMetafilter and two were immediatly deleted (a 25% fail rate!). I read the FAQs and the questions that were deleted didn't fit into the "what not to post" arena, they weren't rude or anything. One was is X legal and the other was adventurous ideas for a family. How do I know what questions are appropriate to ask?

The number of anonymous questions, as a percentage of all AskMe questions, has been rising steadily over time [13 out of 100 today]. We were sitting around talking about this over email and what limits we could implement, when we figured maybe we'd just try to talk about it instead....

Is it bad form to "self-link" to a photo we took on Ask MeFi? In general, of course, I know not to. However, I have a couple
