Is there any particular reason why the window I use to enter my text is so small? I can't think of any reason why it couldn't be twice as wide and four times as tall, and it would really make it a lot easier to use.
Shove it over to the left a long ways to make more room; all of this could be done simply by altering slightly the layout of that section of the page. It wouldn't alter the code in the slightest; just the description and positioning of that window. The window would continue to work exactly as it does now.
So, now that you've won a TiVo, what will you do with it? Keep it? Sell it? Drop it in the nearest pool of magma? Will eBay suddenly be flooded with TiVos? posted by Aaaugh! to General Weblog-Related at 8:35 PM PST - 5 comments
now to the point.. I was wondering if Metafilter outs a xml/rdf/whatever of recent conversation on the frontpage. I noticed that on matt's haughey.com, he has new posts listed on the side.. and I would like to do that on a few sites of mine. any ideas?
I think a rating system (perhaps similar to that of HalfBakery) would be a spiffy addition to MetaTalk/Filter. I thought of this a few days ago and had a genuine situation in mind wherein it might come in handy (Honest, I did!), but have since forgotten what good, exactly, it would be. Then, of course this whole TiVo essay thing came up, and I really want people to know how great I think bradlands' Limericks are, but don't want to be rude by posting "Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know how great I think bradlands' Limericks are." Ratings, of course, would be the obvious, and polite, way to do it.
Of course, I'm sure it would also prove a valuable addition to the entire MF/T community and everyone would love it, etc. posted by Lirp to Feature Requests at 5:52 PM PST - 5 comments
I wanted an HTML tag to appear in my post, so I typed ampersand-lt-semicolon and ampersand-gt-semicolon for the karats. Looked fine in preview, but they got converted to karats -- and therefore invisible comments -- for the post. posted by luke to Bugs at 8:33 PM PST - 1 comments
Just wanted to know whether you've started accepting submissions and as to what format should it be in. 'Cause I've got all my concert ticketstubs scanned. posted by riffola to Ticketstub Project at 12:31 PM PST - 3 comments
I hopped on to MeFi just now to find 4 new threads and 38 new responses. Only 36 of them were on my front page, which means I'll never get to know where 37 and 38 are. And I have my prefs set to deliver 7 days' worth of posts. This is the first time I can remember this happening, so I'm finally pushed to ask: Any consideration of a "list threads with new responses" button, or somesuch? posted by aaron to Feature Requests at 10:15 PM PST - 5 comments
A gigantic "MEFI RAT" is flashing when I load the page. Or maybe "SOME FINE BUREAUCRATS" is. Either way, it's pretty clever. (How's that working out for you?) And I can't find it in the source, so it's both clever and sneaky.
I just thought we should have an open thread on Jason Krannke's new tagline for Metafilter: "your source for political news, stories stolen from Slashdot, weblogger gossip, and links to major news stories that everyone already knows about". So? If MeFi can save me the trouble of visiting Slashdot, Drudge and CNN.com (plus providing comments on the various topics I can steal to sound smarter in RW conversations), I think it provides a very important service. Maybe not the service mathowie originally intended... posted by wendell to MetaFilter-Related at 1:43 PM PST - 10 comments
Just today, MF, but not MT, *does* think I'm logged in, but does *not* fill in the password field on my posting pages automatically. W98/NS4.7x and it's been working ok up til now. Not having the password there, incidentally, preview's you through to a preview page *without* your posting at the bottom; no apparent error message. posted by baylink to Bugs at 4:22 PM PST - 2 comments
Even though I changed the Number of Days to Show on Main Page from 7 to 5 a couple of weeks ago, I still count eight date headings on the main page. The Customize form box says 5 as it should be, and re-submitting doesn't change anything. posted by Nikolai to Bugs at 9:49 PM PST - 0 comments
