Complete lists of MeFi and AskMe tags - gone?
posted by hangashore to Bugs at 6:17 PM (7 comments total)

Just noticed the links to the full lists of MeFi and AskMe tags are missing on the respective "Tags" pages. I tried forced-reloading of the pages - no luck.

On preview, looks like the MeFi tags page is hosed.

Firefox 1.5 on Win2K (apologies if it's just PEBKACery on my part).

Okay, now de-hosed (the "Connection Failure" on the MeFi tags page is gone, and the popular tags are back).

popular tags only, as the "all tags ever" page was close to useless (not to mention it was over 2Mb of HTML just to convey the uselessness).

The tags features were kind of thrown together when they were new and there wasn't much content to check them against, but now it's kind of outgrown the large set so I limited it to just the popular ones. You can try any tag by just adding to the /tags/any-word-here URL, but I could add a tag search if people want to search for exact words that might show up in tag names.

Was going to say that it was occasionally a fun read, but at that size I don't blame you at all for retiring it.

I think that would be helpful. I find searching for tags an efficient way to check for previous posts on a subject, and sometimes that subject may not have popular tags.

I think that would be helpful too. Of course, I think it would be more helpful if more people used descriptive tags in their posts instead of trying to come up with cutesy, clever shit, which is probably part of what made the full list so useless.
