Small Meetup Functionality Request: Allow the Meetup thread poster to highlight the post which contains the agreed upon Place and Time?

Maybe its just me but it takes me a while to parse through all the suggested places and times in the thread to get to the place where there was some sort of consensus. Perhaps the post(s) which contain that info could be highlighted in the same way that Best Answer is highlighted on the green?

When you set a meetup, you can put in the full URL to the comment that has the agreed upon date and time. You don't have to link to just the thread proposing it. The person that created it can also edit it later to whichever comment has the most info.

What if there was a link in the sidebar similar to the picture links now?

I mean in the actual thread, not on the front page of MetaTalk.

How about if anyone could nominate a place/time proposal, putting it on the (thread) sidebar and allowing others to vote it up or down? This way several competing proposals can be considered without so many "I'm in for Saturday" and "I hate that bar" comments cluttering up the thread. the OP could still have veto power, but it would be a simpler way of figuring out which ideas are popular.

Once it's added ot the sidebar, that link does go directly to whichever comment has the final day/time/location which is pretty decent. Do you think maybe that should also highlight that comment? That might be neat, some little box around it or something....

Hey, I just said something similar here.

I like the meetup sidebar, but if there was an equivalent for the comment tags akin to askmefi, where at the bottom of the comment you can mark as best "meetup time / location / date" it would then highlight the comment, bring you to the sidebar fill out field, and let you fill in the information.

At the top of the thread, put "Here is where the directions are" for those of us cruising from our iphones needing to remember what freaking address we are supposed to get to. so once we get to the page, we can see the big obvious comment about it.

I did not know this. I am happy with this functionality (so my crazy idea 'mark as best day / location' thing can go). but it would be nice to highlight the comment in thread, and post the link to the comment at the top of the post.

I think that's a good idea, but I don't think people do it- I think people prefer to add their meetup to the sidebar before the post scrolls off the front page, which can happen before a final decision on where it's happening is made.

TPS- i guess you can technically change that again, however it is not readily apparent in the instructions that you can do so.

I never even ventured back to the page after i had submitted my meetup information the first time.

I guess since you change the post type to "meetup" whole different subset of behaviors could happen to how the thread is handled.

imagine the features for a"callout meta"

While we're talking about meetup ponies, it would be nice if people could add a meetup so that they get a little MeMail prod reminding them about it. I've missed a couple TO meetups from this. Or, conversely, let people "join" a meetup but have that give the OP the ability to message everyone attending in one go.

How? Clearly I'm an idiot. I just mangled my own attempt and the SF meetup now has two.

It may be me that is the idiot [and I fixed the sidebar]. I have only a passing sense of what some of these more recent tools look like to the non-admins. I think it would be neat to have the comment which is the actual location of the meetup be somehow marked as if it were a best answer of sorts.

Especially if people are going to travel hundreds of miles for a meet-up!

As one who went to the wrong spot for a meetup, I heartily endorse this pony.

I don't want to meet anyone who is so busy, important, or engaged in life that they can't spend hours pouring through all the indecipherable inside jokes and innuendo made in the Chicago meetup threads...
