Twitter on profiles isn't updating May 7, 2008 1:53 PM   Subscribe

My profile is showing my "last" Twitter status as an update posted two months ago. I've made plenty of updates since then...

They call them fingers but I never see them fing.

Oh there they go.

Well since it's an open thread, I'm just gonna throw this out there...

I think Twitter is dumb.

Unless you get arrested by the Egyptian police. Then it comes in handy.

Twitter is to the Internet what Crash Theft Auto IV is to the PS3... completely overhyped.

I spend all day reading everyone's twitters, then I input various tangible activities into a growing database. Then at night I scan the database looking for patterns.

I just had a depressing thought. Somewhere, someone's last communication to the world before they died was 'lol'.

There's already a twitter is dumb thread on the blue.

OK, on a related note, Twitter updates immediately in my profile, but Last.FM doesn't until a couple days later. Anyone else have that happening?
posted by limeonaire at 2:28 PM on May 7, 2008

Judging by the current incarnation's cell-phone submenu gimmick, there's a very good chance that Twitter will be an integrated feature in Grand Theft Auto V.

Twitter makes me all atwitter
Cause it's one step towards the shitter
Flitter off another bitter
Missive then some chatter chitter

We broke up, I've got the jitters
Tweeted Bud, he's quite the kidder
Lets go out - I'll text the sitter
Don't bring kids, there'd be a litter

She was all made up in glitter
At the bar and I'm the hitter
Then I hear the patter pitter
"Here's your kid." I hollered "Quitter!"

Here's the lesson, you'll be fitter:
Talk it out, be a go getter
Never should you tweet on twitter
'Less she asks you to.

Does Twitter work in my country?

Semi-related, my profile page used to show my facebook link. Then one day I got a message that it couldn't link to my page because the format was wrong (it wanted numbers only or something like that) and the facebook link went away, never to return.

Just wondering if something changed here, or with facebook.

As a Mom blogger and mother of teens, I both tweet and play Grand Theft Auto IV. I can anticipate the day when I accidentally pop a cap in another Mom on Twitter and then hotwire a car to the high school...

May that poem could have been so much better. But you have no idea how many times I came close to resetting the cooter counter. Where are we at, by the way? I feel like it's been 30 days.
posted by cashman at 7:47 PM on May 7, 2008

It has not been 30 days. I keep the counter on my profile page.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 7:52 PM on May 7, 2008

So what would change if we reach 30 days? Your profile name, your name in the podcast? You are not actually going to go to the courthouse, right?
posted by ALongDecember at 8:00 PM on May 7, 2008

I'm going to start sending mean MeMails to people who reset the cooter counter. And by mean, I mean ridiculous.

OPEN THREAD! OMG, did you guys see Gossip Girl?

Dammit! Went out last night and haven't caught up with my illicit downloads yet. Was it as awesome as I just know it was? I mean, Michelle Trachtenberg getting her hooks into Dan when Serena is all dubious morality girl and Chuck her enabler! Genius! Best. Show. Ever.

How do you stay up with it? Just reading comments, or do you have some sort of pb/cortex hackamariffic little HitItSignal that sounds klaxons and fires up a twirly red light and tweets "d jessamyn reset the clock lol" whenever that string hits the database? Inquiring minds want to know.

(I'm hoping that it's the latter, btw, and that there are capes involved somehow. Or cortex in a unitard.)

I like to imagine there's a crack team of MeFites that scours the site and flags every occurrence for her perusal.

Burhanistan : Then at night I scan the database looking for patterns.

Don't bother. I cracked the code a while back, and the answer is "the Rosicrucians".

I checked and then double checked my work, but I kept coming up with the same solution. Thinking I had finally broken the Grand Illuminati Unification Theory, I vetted my work prior to the great revelation-which-would-change-everything when I released it; unfortunately once I dug around enough, I found out the actual question for this answer was "What conspiracy linked organization is really difficult to spell?"

Which was considered less that awesome by the community.

My lust and cheesiness, being rivals for the award of "most groanworthy" character attribute, have driven me to recklessly careen headlong past the flashing stop signs, toward that bright red brick wall, the threshold of restraint, so often that any gambling soul would bet that by now, I'd hit it.

One of the pitfalls of jessamyn's system is that, once someone asserts their interest in hitting it, the floor is open for others to second the motion for the rest of the day.
