San Francisco Meetup June 19, 2003 5:00 PM   Subscribe

Time to put up or shut up. I propose, once and for all, an SF meetup.

More inside, baby. Don't be scared.

(plus, if people like, we can send out a contigent to Lucky 13 afterwards, everyone's favorite punk rock bar).

What time? 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM?
posted by riffola at 5:03 PM on June 19, 2003

Why, 8PM of course.

If you're looking for a place to dine beforehand, I like the mac and cheese at Home.

I should add that the possibility of snacks, handmade with love by yours truly, exists.

Ah the jealousy that boils up in little jonson threatens to overwhelm his petty & envious heart... Promise to take pictures, or at the very least pay rapt attention and describe later in great detail.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this coming week (that's the 23rd, 24th, and 25th) I will be in the Bay Area for work.

Anyone who wants to meet up for a drink or whatever, email me. Or post it here. It's up to you.

My plans include TP'ing mathowie's house. It's bound to be fun for one and all.

crash, just let me know where to be. I gotta buy fishfucker his "jinx" drink.
posted by padraigin at 5:53 PM on June 19, 2003

Hey, we should go to the Toronado when you're here. Lots of beer options.
posted by padraigin at 5:55 PM on June 19, 2003

Cool, padraigin. It's my birthday on July 25. I shall attempt to get someone's cellphone number for a cross-Atlantic link between parties - though mine should be long since finished by the time yours gets off. Might not, though! :)

*heaves seventeen-ton hint into crash's direction*
posted by MiguelCardoso at 6:37 PM on June 19, 2003

Just like you called me Miguel?
posted by eyeballkid at 6:47 PM on June 19, 2003

Miguel, that is the most serendipitous thing I've heard all day.

Ladies and Gentlemen: The San Francisco Meetup is hereby declared:

"MiguelCardoso's Birthday Extravaganza".

Martinis will be drunk. Trash will be talked.

All those who love, hate, or are indifferent to Miguel are required to attend.
posted by padraigin at 6:53 PM on June 19, 2003

*number of attendees shrinks rapidly*
posted by MiguelCardoso at 7:17 PM on June 19, 2003

I'll be out of town until the first week of August.
*cries*
posted by eddydamascene at 7:26 PM on June 19, 2003

And I won't have moved to the Bay until late August! I declare the need for a second SF MeFi meetup!
posted by gramcracker at 9:42 PM on June 19, 2003

MeFi meetup the day before the Cal Extreme Arcade supershow in San Jose? Boo-yah!

I'm in for July 25. Here are some maps to the Mint.
posted by kirkaracha at 10:39 PM on June 19, 2003

CAL EXXXTREME! i forgot about that. I'm buying my tickets now. Also, all you MeFiers listed in my profile who haven't either RSVPed yet or sent their regrets, expect some goddamn email. C'mon, we're the home of MeFi, right? get yourself down there. What do I have to do? I'll even sing "Wanted Man" for you, or maybe even "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" ... NOT TO BE MISSED!
posted by fishfucker at 11:41 PM on June 19, 2003

I'm working on "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina".
posted by padraigin at 8:00 AM on June 20, 2003

Time for me to seethe again.

I'd go, but then someone has to pay for my MeFiVegas trip. I fully expect another SF meet when I visit SF en route to that little event.
posted by Salmonberry at 9:50 AM on June 20, 2003

Hey, Salmonberry, let's try to set up a lotus-land meetup! It's been a year since our last attempt.
posted by timeistight at 10:10 AM on June 20, 2003

Well, that was a little embarrassing.
posted by timeistight at 3:08 PM on June 20, 2003

Oh my, karaoke. I've had some pretty bleary-eyed and embarassing nights at the Mint, but this one might top them all.

Can't guarantee msacheson and I will sing, though. We will spare you all the nausea....
posted by aacheson at 5:07 PM on June 20, 2003

Whoops, won't be bleary-eyed....Momentarily forgot I'm pregnant. Our first, for those who are keeping track.
posted by aacheson at 5:07 PM on June 20, 2003

Congrats, aacheson! Pancake bibs all around!

I'm a nursing mom, so I'll be going fairly light on the sauce. It wouldn't do to completely return to bad habits before the appropriate time.

Of course, as a Mint veteran and a pregnant woman, you will be aware that the two bathrooms are both unisex. Very important when you just really can't wait.

I look forward to macheson's rendition of "She's Having My Baby".
posted by padraigin at 5:51 PM on June 20, 2003

Well, the Mint's bathrooms didn't make SF Weekly's Best and Worst Restrooms in San Francisco, so they could be worse.

p.s. Dibs on "Mac the Knife."
posted by kirkaracha at 6:06 PM on June 20, 2003

Goddamn, man, pack your boxes and come out! moving sucks, you'll need a release. and is there anything better than watching me stumble through the DiVinyls "When I think About You (I touch Myself)"? I think not.
posted by fishfucker at 9:19 PM on June 20, 2003

Congratulations, aacheson!
posted by languagehat at 10:00 AM on June 21, 2003

It's either Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire) or REO Speedwagon (the one that starts, "Heard it from a friend who-o-o / Heard it from a friend who-o-o / Heard it from another you been messin' around"). Those are the only two I do. If you have a preference, let me know before I get drunk.
posted by _sirmissalot_ at 10:09 PM on June 22, 2003

Aw crap. You can attend a karoke place without like, ya know, singing, right? I have to be *really* drunk to even think about that sort of thing. I wonder what would fit best?

"Follow the Leader?"
posted by mathowie (staff) at 11:56 PM on June 22, 2003

i don't plan on singing as much as gurgling into the microphone "can someone... buy... me another.. bud..weiser?" so i'm sure things will work out for you as well.

yes, it's true, i probably won't be singing either. since i've already lauded the internet world with one solid gold hit i see no reason to besmirch my past achievements.
posted by fishfucker at 3:26 PM on June 23, 2003

I may be able to make it. I've been thinking about an SF roadtrip for quite a while.
posted by y6y6y6 at 7:28 PM on June 23, 2003

Song number 3323 is mine, folks. And, depending on how freely the beer flows, 16778. I'm marking my calendar! Oh, and bridge and tunnel people be warned: queer space ahead.
posted by squirrel at 12:52 AM on June 25, 2003

I don't say much here, but I *do* karaoke and drink beers, and it's right around the corner, so I'll be there.
posted by greasepig at 10:46 PM on June 25, 2003

Wow, makes me glad i moved out here from boston...you know, just so i could make it to the meet up, ...yeah, that's right.
posted by NGnerd at 7:16 PM on June 28, 2003

Why not require people to sing the song that matches their usernumber?
mathowie sings "I Will Always Love You"...who wouldn't pay to see that?
posted by filmgoerjuan at 2:45 PM on June 30, 2003

Song # 12680 No matches for your criteria. Please try again. Excellent suggestion, filmgoerjuan!
posted by G_Ask at 7:35 PM on July 3, 2003

Let's put it this way, it works for all the MeFites with user numbers low enough to matter ;)
posted by filmgoerjuan at 12:03 AM on July 6, 2003

I will be out of town but I may send a doppelganger.
posted by vacapinta at 10:52 PM on July 7, 2003

I get to sing Elvis Presley's "Here Comes Santa Claus"? Surreal.
posted by waxpancake at 11:19 AM on July 14, 2003

I didnt know what you were talking about but now I understand.

I would be singing the Spanish standard "Eternamente Bella". Wow. Creepy. (spanish is my first language)
