The first sentence here is the first example of uptalk I've seen in an AskMe question?

I noticed from Projects that we have at least a few Second Life-savvy MeFites, but no real MetaFilter-focused presence in SL, so I went ahead and made us a MetaFilter SL group. Come join, message me in-world if you have any questions, and if you're nice I might even give you a teleport to a sneak peek at a little virtual MeFi anniversary surprise I'm working on. (Just search for my handle, same as on here plus an "Oh.") The group's also open to members of other MeFi-related communities, for which I will even make custom group tags on request. (Monkeys, Bunnies, and IRC lurkers join in!) If anyone here isn't an SL resident but wants to be, I'm sure the group will be happy to give you a welcoming walkabout. Or at least I will.

Would Metafilter admins appreciate deliberate shit-stirring on their site? If not, why encourage it elsewhere by approving the question?

Thank you for making <pre> tags work predictably and consistently between live preview, full preview, and posting. However..

Once someone asked a question that was inappropriate for some reason (chat filter?) and then everyone freaked out and started posting weird stuff. This was maybe a year ago. It never happened again, that I saw. It was sort of funny. But I don't know why/how/what happened.

108 MeFites claim to live exactly here: +47° 25' 56.10", -121° 48' 12.20". Which is, in fact, nowhere.

MeFi is showing me a "surprise her... with a bigger penis" ad. She looks pretty surprised, but not as surprised as me.

If there's one thing MeFites love more than Sarah Palin discussions, it's smug senses of superiority. Get yours in the 2008 MetaFilter election prediction contest.

Re: the Bristol Palin pregnancy thread being deleted - uh, the other post in which it is being "discussed" is sort of inaccessible.

How to find Mefites in a specific location? I want to find all Mefites in Panama City, Panama. Is it possible to do this; if so, how? Someone suggested editing my profile and changing my location to the city I want to locate others in and then looking at nearby mefites but that didn't work.

The post from a couple of days ago is great, but really made me wonder where the MeFites make their magic.

If there were a way to signal what locality ask.mefi posts pertained to, would that be a useful piece of data to know?

I'm sure I'm going to get absolutely hammered for this, but...consider it my personal pony request. AskMe should have some kind of "flag" for when an answer given is dangerous. Not simply ill advised, irrational, immature, subject to different discretion, or bad, but simply so wrong it could hurt, in a legal, medical, etc. way, the OP who asked for the advice. Yes, I say this because once again I am angered to see a non-lawyer, posting as such, giving legal advice that has no basis in fact, reality, etc., and as such simply sends the OP in a really bad direction. Again, I'm not talking about debatably bad advice, but answers that are simply so wrong it hurts. It's one thing to give your 2 cents, but another to suggest that a technical legal issue that has no application whatsoever is the right answer. So, I think there should be some kind of user-viewable flag that lets others know educated answerers think an answer is BAD. Since we already have a method to indicate people think an answer is GOOD...

Morbid question I know, but here goes... I wanted to peruse ALL of the threads in the history of MeFi which are what I'd affectionately refer to as virtual wakes. Is there an ideal way to do this beyond just the obit tag, and how might one do it efficiently? [more inside]

What are the rules for posting to MeFi? Ive noticed that many posts are news articles and many of the op/ed posts get snarked or berated for not being newsworthy... I thought this was "best of the web"? I for one will read digg if I want news and MeFi if I want to find interesting web articles...
comment posted at 3:23 PM on Aug-1-07

I would like to know what the standard is for obituary filter. Scores, nay hundreds, of semi-famous people die every day. Can we do a thread about each and every one of them on MetaFilter? I hope not.

IraqFilter Is Awful. Is there some wide swath of MeFi users who derive a lot of enjoyment or benefit out of posts like this, which seem to surface whenever somebody pens an op-ed that criticizes the Iraq war (i.e., fairly frequently)? Here's the pattern: (1) op-ed is published; (2) op-ed is copied to MeFi; (3) posters say how bad President Bush is; (4) a poster or two will defend the administration; and (4) posters will attack the defenders until they no longer respond. Am I the only one who thinks that is tedious?

How about a filter that limits posts from having words over a certain length? Usually it's pasted URLs, and they always break the tables and require a manual cleanup. For instance.

PDF warnings are always appreciated by me. Lack of a PDF warning is annoying. PDF seems so outdated and unnecessary.
