My list of such is short and lame this year, but it would be lamer if we didn't have one of these threads for 2012. Show us your MeFi buried treasure! The point of these threads it to share your most loved comments from the past year that you feel didn't get the attention they deserve. I use a dozen favourites as a rough guideline but that's totally flexible! Anything you feel deserves another chance to shine is fair game! My list: It's Raining Florence Henderson's take on creationist pickup lines. Why you shouldn't tell a Klingon to shut his piehole. dinty moore on Persona 4's frustrating about face on its developing gay and trans storylines. usonian discusses his work on the Buffy cyberdemon suit. fuq explains how frat hazing is important training for the real world. cottoncandybeard delivers the only comment you need in a post about a pog blog. Cool Papa Bell imagines a face off between King Joffrey and Mad Men's Pete Campbell. Bicyclefish talks existential angst with Raffi. Any comment that teasingly calls out The Good Wife for its ever increasing need to explain Internet issues to moms gets a favourite from me! I agree with Coatlicue re: Sandman + Johnny Depp = No. Picked up a fair number of faves, but I loved DWRoelands' take on Neo-Nerds and Monty Python quoting. I was tickled by this massive list of high-IQ societies The Prawn Reproach wishes we could just let foreign loanwords go in peace, no need for violence What elizardbits would do were she a 7 feet tall dude. Speaking of love, as a quick followup to this post about this year's MefightClub donation drive for the Child's Play charity, we've wrapped it up with a total of $5500 dollars donated, beating last year's total and easily surpassing our goal. Big hugs to everyone who donated to the group pool, to everyone who donated independently, thanks to frognuts for kicking off this year's drive, and special thanks to our noodley inspiration, herrdoktor, for rallying the troops. I'm enormously proud of the community we have at MFC. The spirit of rotato lives on.

2012 Presidential Prediction Contest Winner

Now that Florida has finished counting votes (always a challenge for us), the 2012 presidential election results are 332 electoral votes for Obama and 206 for Romney -- barring faithless electors. The popular vote is 50.6% Obama, 47.9% Romney and 1.5% other. The Nate Silver Medal for Political Prognostication goes to JKevinKing. J. Kevin was one of 15 people to tie for first in the electoral half of the contest with a perfect prediction. He finished third in the popular vote half, ahead of I am the Walrus and UrineSoakedRube who tied for ninth. The $50 Threadless gift certificate and life-size cardboard Joe Biden are on the way to JKevinKing as soon as I send them. Please keep Joe in the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed. Special mentions: If Florida had gone to Romney, goodnewsfortheinsane would have gotten the entire contest right on the nose. The Karl Rove award for last place goes to St. Alia of the Bunnies. The pundits and psychics have already weighed in. Now it's your turn in MetaFilter's (mostly) quadrennial presidential prediction contest. The winner will receive a $50 Threadless gift certificate and a life-size cardboard Joe Biden. To enter, predict the percentage of the vote that President Obama, Mitt Romney and Everybody Else will receive and the number of electoral votes that Obama, Romney and Everybody Else will receive. Entries must be submitted before Dixville Notch, N.H., reports its vote early Tuesday morning. Post your prediction as a comment. If two people make the same prediction the first to post will be the winner. Winner may not refuse to accept Joe Biden. Offer not valid in places the offer would not be valid.

2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony

I just wanted to say to all US mefites: the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony is a must watch. Danny Boyle has done us proud. I gather it's on in the evening US time? No spoilers then, but it's completely bonkers. In a good way. You should all watch it :)

MeFites attending or presenting at SXSWi?

Time for the annual SXSWi meetup/presentations/networking/etc thread! I'm attending SXSWi, and last year's Metafilter meetup and seeing Mathowie & Jessamyn's sessions were the highlight of my time in Austin. I'd love to MeFi-ize my SXSW again this year. Please share if you're presenting or attending at SXSWi, and let's try to schedule another meetup. Looking to Austinites to pretty please help with location and meetup-planning if you can. I realize we should propose a meetup in IRL and I'm happy to do that separately if/once the crowd decides on something. I'm just attending 3/8 - 3/13, not presenting, so I have nothing to offer. Other than my charm, enthusiasm, and love for Metafilter...

Please don't say that there already is a thread for it - that other thread was about a handwritten note. The President releasing this stuff, to finally end the debate, is news - it is ongoing, it politically matters, and it is a mistake to not have a thread for it.
