Just clicked on a link in the sideblog and got a 404. Tried http://bestof.metafilter.com/ alone and got a 403. Checked Downforeveryone and it seems to be a global problem.

MetaFilter Server Issues

We're having a few technical glitches with the MetaFilter servers so you might experience a few problems. Yesterday our ISP detected a DDoS attack aimed at MetaFilter. They immediately started filtering traffic that flows to our system. There are a few side-effects of this filtering that you might be experiencing: intermittent connection timeouts, odd File Not Found (404) errors, and problems uploading files. Our ISP automatically puts our system into this mode for 24 hours. So it's possible this will clear up later today. It's also possible that we'll need to run like this for a while. Thanks for your patience while we weather this.

Mobile Fail

Some links are failing on mobil devices. Please be careful when you post. This morning, two links central to two different posts on the blue redirect to generic search pages rather than the linked article when viewed on a mobile device such as an iPhone. The Better Off Without 'em / Simon & Schuster link from the North/South thread. The 50 feet / Bloomberg link from the Parking Lot thread. There are two things we can do about this. First, check your links on a mobile device to make sure they actually work there. Web readership is becoming increasingly mobile. Second, if you are building a mobile web version of an existing site, don't do this. These search pages are no better than 404s.

Is Metafilter Memories down? I'm getting a Static Server page at http://www.cat-scan.com/ and "404 Not Found" pages at any individual memory page (like http://www.cat-scan.com/memory/152). Thanks!

Login Error / Broken Link. Tried to log in. Was told to use a captcha. Didn't. Clicked log in and got a page which said: "Go back and use the captcha to log in." Clicked the "Go Back" link and got this page: https://login.metafilter.com/login/ which doesn't exist. Speaking of which, a more creative 404 page would be nice. ;)

404 issue in recent comments page view

Error: File Not Found Clicking on the (xx new) section after a post gives me a 404 - but only when I'm in "Recent Comments" view. Does that make sense? I hope so.

I wanted to post a question to AskMe, which I see ok in preview but when I hit post, only 1 sentence of it comes up and I get a 404 page saying the rest of it can't be found, etc. I'm using Mozilla 1.4 on Windows XP but I tried it in IE6 and the same thing happened. What am I doing wrong?

I'm just curious. What does one see when they've been banned from MeFi? After a smoting, do they just get the 404, or is there some neener-neener message? (I would have emailed number 1 with this query, but I'll bet dollors-to-donuts I'm not the only one who wants to know.)

MeFi & MeTa thread pages 404 when logged in

IfI try to read any thread on MetaFilter or MetaTalk and I'm logged in, I get 404, yo. If I'm not logged in, I can read the threads. I've tried logging out and logging back in, and I deleted my MetaCookies.

Can we have a better 404 page?

Logout does not appear to be working quite right. Logging out of MeFi doesn't appear to change my cookies in any way. Logging out of metatalk gives "HTTP/1.0 404 Object Not Found". (using Mozilla 0.9.4, if that matters)

when I try to go to the discussion on october 16 bug, I see a brief glimpse of the page, then it goes to "HTTP/1.1 404 Object Not Found".

It didn't do this yesterday.
