Taxfilter? Mefitax? I know this isn't our domain, per se, but I think it is the type of thing we're great at. And there's plenty of askmefi history to warrant the discussion. What is the proper place for tax questions in metafilter? Is there a proper place? Is there a better forum? Really better? full disclosure: I almost posted this to askmefi, but: [more inside]

So I have an article that I want to post, but the article is essentially a question regarding how people read. Abebooks had a blog post about it and the Guardian picked up on this issue as well. Should I post this on MetaFilter or under AskMefi? No matter where I post it, people will offer up their own preferences for how they read a book. As I see it, this post would be more appropriate in the Green, but I'm not certain.
I've been really enjoying "lifehack"-type AskMe posts lately - questions about how to change one's own habits to be better at day-to-day life situations and challenges (How do I become one of those people who makes everyone they talk to feel great? from Chrysalis is a good new one). What are some of your favorites? [more inside]

InfoDump Analysis Request. Who asks the most interesting questions in AskMe? [more inside]
Forgive me if this was asked before (I searched the FAQ), but I see a lot of people asking questions in AskMeFi who have never commented. Why are the guidelines different from MetaFilter (where you have to comment a certain number of times before you post)? I understand that some people are lurkers and we want to be accepting of that, but it seems like a lot of the questions which break the guidelines could be avoided. Maybe I'm just a whiner?
There was a question asked within the last year (I think) that was something like 'Why do people have pets if they know they are going to die before they do? How can they handle the grief?" There was a response post to the question explaining that love for a pet was unique in that you go into the relationship knowing that, most likely, you will outlive the pet and that therefore this is a noble kind of love etc. etc. [more inside]

I posted a FPP that was rightfully deleted, however out of it was coming some interesting details about the topic and I'd like to learn more. Can I rephrase it as an ask mefi or is that bad form? [more inside]

Ask Metafilter relationship questions that are 25+ paragraphs long, which is a more and more frequently seen problem, never go well. How about putting wording to that effect on the Ask Mefi posting page? [more inside]

Given the guidelines for AskMefi, this seems a particularly hard one to answer at all.
I'm looking for the thread in which a person was interested in putting the music in movies, and wanted to know what that occupation was called/how to get there. Thanks!

Let me know if this is the wrong forum, but in this AskMeFi thread the OP apparently executed a script someone wrote him. Judging from one of this follow-up comments, he had no knowledge of Windows batch files. I'm a little disturbed. Am I paranoid?
What is the typical (is there such a thing?) MetaFilter gestation period? [more inside]
This AskMeFi question has 5 identical answers from 5 different users. Huh?
I am wondering if people could assist me in locating Ask Metafilter questions along the lines of this and this. I know it's a concept frequently asked about, but evidently the concept's too amorphous for tags to be of help, Related Questions just circularly refer to each other, and I can't find the right Google-fu for this one. PonyRequest : When we have an AnonAsk refused, could we have a reason sent to the asker as a matter of course, so that the asker could (a) know that it's been refused and can use their weekly on something else and (b) have some idea of what they did wrong and consider if/how they should rewrite it? have pros and cons ever been discussed for separating AskMe's into segregated categories for ( "what do you recommend I do during my three months in X / can anyone recommend a good shoe repairmen in X" ; "radioactive Y on my eyeball when I woke up-- should I see a doctor?" ; and "need help with Z computer-ish code-ism/softwareness" )? Why can't I make my AskMeFi question anonymous? Was this changed and I missed it? I searched, but to no avail.
I posted an AskMefi question yesterday but now it's gone. So how do i know whether it's been officially deleted or not? I went to My Profile; under 'Contributions', I clicked on the 'questions' (number 40) and brought up the questions I've asked. The one i posted yesterday is not on the list. I also did the search: http://www.metafilter.com/activity/29435/posts/ask/ as suggested in the FAQ and also came up blank. However, when i go to the 'new question' page on AskMefi, it says i've posted in the last week. I know for sure that I haven't posted anything in the last week other than the question i posted yesterday. I'm ok with deletion, but it would be nice to know the reason for future reference.
So I've asked a few AskMefi questions now, and have noticed that they tend to get responses for about five hours, give or take, then the responses stop. When is the optimal time during the week to ask my AskMefi question, so that I get the maximum number of eyeballs looking at my question, and thus, get the maximum number of answers. I know that this may not necessarily increase the quality of the answers I get. I am talking about sheer quantity. Thanks!
Ask.Metafilter is over 5 years old now, with volumes of suggestions and helpful ideas. philosophistry sorted through the years of posts categorized as Human Relations and Work & Money, and created ranked listings of the books people recommended the most often: Human Relations, Work & Money. Note that each little thumbs-up icon is a link back to the post which referred to the book in question. Posted originally in Mefi by filthy light thief, but deleted. [more inside]
