Forgive me if this was asked before (I searched the FAQ), but I see a lot of people asking questions in AskMeFi who have never commented. Why are the guidelines different from MetaFilter (where you have to comment a certain number of times before you post)? I understand that some people are lurkers and we want to be accepting of that, but it seems like a lot of the questions which break the guidelines could be avoided. Maybe I'm just a whiner?

There was a question asked within the last year (I think) that was something like 'Why do people have pets if they know they are going to die before they do? How can they handle the grief?" There was a response post to the question explaining that love for a pet was unique in that you go into the relationship knowing that, most likely, you will outlive the pet and that therefore this is a noble kind of love etc. etc.

Have you ever asked a question in AskMeFi that you now regret posting? Of course I'll provide an answer for myself.

I posted a FPP that was rightfully deleted, however out of it was coming some interesting details about the topic and I'd like to learn more. Can I rephrase it as an ask mefi or is that bad form?

Ask Metafilter relationship questions that are 25+ paragraphs long, which is a more and more frequently seen problem, never go well. How about putting wording to that effect on the
Ask Mefi posting page?

I'm looking for the thread in which a person was interested in putting the music in movies, and wanted to know what that occupation was called/how to get there.
Thanks!

So it turns out if they close your AskMeFi after 3 minutes, they take your week from you. If anyone is interested.

Let me know if this is the wrong forum, but in
this AskMeFi thread the OP apparently executed a script someone wrote him. Judging from one of this follow-up comments, he had no knowledge of Windows batch files. I'm a little disturbed. Am I paranoid?

I am wondering if people could assist me in locating Ask Metafilter questions along the lines of
this and
this. I know it's a concept frequently asked about, but evidently the concept's too amorphous for tags to be of help, Related Questions just circularly refer to each other, and I can't find the right Google-
fu for this one.

PonyRequest : When we have an AnonAsk refused, could we have a reason sent to the asker as a matter of course, so that the asker could (a) know that it's been refused and can use their weekly on something else and (b) have some idea of what they did wrong and consider if/how they should rewrite it?

I'm trying to get feedback/helpers on a collaborative Google Map of bike paths in the Boston area. It's pretty small and unambitious, hardly something I've spent "a few months" on. Is this appropriate for MeFi Projects?

have pros and cons ever been discussed for separating AskMe's into segregated categories for
(
"
what do you recommend I do during my three months in X /
can anyone recommend a good shoe repairmen in X" ;
"
radioactive Y on my eyeball when I woke up-- should I see a doctor?" ; and
"
need help with Z computer-ish code-ism/softwareness"
)?

Why can't I make my AskMeFi question anonymous? Was this changed and I missed it? I searched, but to no avail.

I posted an AskMefi question yesterday but now it's gone. So how do i know whether it's been officially deleted or not? I went to My Profile; under 'Contributions', I clicked on the 'questions' (number 40) and brought up the questions I've asked. The one i posted yesterday is not on the list.
I also did the search: http://www.metafilter.com/activity/29435/posts/ask/ as suggested in the FAQ and also came up blank.
However, when i go to the 'new question' page on AskMefi, it says i've posted in the last week. I know for sure that I haven't posted anything in the last week other than the question i posted yesterday.
I'm ok with deletion, but it would be nice to know the reason for future reference.

So I've asked a few AskMefi questions now, and have noticed that they tend to get responses for about five hours, give or take, then the responses stop. When is the optimal time during the week to ask my AskMefi question, so that I get the maximum number of eyeballs looking at my question, and thus, get the maximum number of answers. I know that this may not necessarily increase the
quality of the answers I get. I am talking about sheer quantity. Thanks!

My Askmefi question only recieved one answer...I realize that this must just
happen every so often, but I'm wondering, a) how I might avoid it, and, b) can I ask the same question again in the hopes of getting more answers?

I remember an Ask Metafilter question in which it was asked whether, if the current Queen of England went by a name based on her forename and surname (the format many of us go by, such as "John Smith" or "Jane Doe"), what that name would be. I can't seem to find it under the "queen" tag or via a Google search.
