presence I've enjoyed have disabled accounts. Are the majority of those people closing accounts leaving of their own accord?

Ike looks like it's going to be bad one. If any MeFites in the Houston/Galveston area find
gas and find their way up I-45, we have a guest bed and a couch to spare if you need to crash for a few.

Which topics is AskMetafilter best at answering? I'm not referring to specific questions for which you've received the most helpful response; rather I'm wondering if people find that (for example) computer hardware questions receive more accurate and helpful answers than medical questions, or that AskMe is particularly bad at answering another type of question.

I know a MetaFilter swapsite or Craigslist-y thing has
been suggested before, but now that I have a thing burning a hole in my pocket that I'd like to give to an interested local Mefite -- like, today -- I'm wondering if it's time. I'd like to sell or give away things to you, and I'd like to buy stuff, too. I'm pretty sure that we could do some really interesting things with this, like what Miko did with
her $9 something offer.

The Morning News is throwing their annual
Tournament of Books to figure out the best book of 2007. A new twist this year is the
Making Book Tournament where you bet on what the winner will be, with the proceeds going to
First Book, a literacy foundation. MeFi is dollar matching bets up to $1,000 for the contest.
