Hamburger is short for...

Burt Reynolds reveals the strangely apropos meaning of "hamburger" from the set of Smokey And The Bandit: And Jackie drank on set, sometimes before 11 AM. He’d look over his shoulder and say “Mal! Hamburger!” And that meant glass of bourbon. Whenever he said “Mal! Hamburger!” that meant go get me a tall glass of bourbon.

In political megathreads, can we please try to be more straightforward.

"punch drunk" is a thing, yeah. I get it. But there's a whole lot of us who aren't in on the cultural jokes. Or the sarcasm. [more inside]

Pony Request: Move the italicize button on the mobile site

On an iPhone, when you have a body of text entered and selected (as if you were going to italicize to quote someone, the "i" button is placed EXACTLY beneath the "Cut/Copy/Paste" dialog box no matter how you scroll. It's infuriating. The only way to get around it seems to be some random combination of zoom and scroll that sometimes results in it becoming unhidden. I can't be the only one who this drives nuts. What if the italicize button were swapped with the "<" button? Does anyone even use that button?

"Ample open TSA threads"

Can we have a separate subsection of MetaFilter just about airline travel, security, the TSA, backscatter machines, agressive pat-downs, ball cupping, and other related topics? It could be an area for posts about these issues, questions, projects, jobs, and music. I feel this would be both a great place to productively funnel the surge of ongoing interest and a way to help keep the rest of the site from being inundated. Potential names for the subsite welcome and appreciated.

The bias problems with Rassmussen have been discussed and mocked by the lefty blogosphere for years. ...and HAMBURGER in a sarcastic font represents utmost sincerity

Idiopath on October 20th, 2009: If metafilter supported it, using an absurd font would probably be a better analog. [more inside]
