We made a few changes to the modern theme today. At mobile widths, the Skip button is now no longer the Skip button—it's an arrow pointing down. At tablet/iPad widths there's a new similar down arrow button in the fixed header that appears as you scroll. And behind the scenes we enabled Grunticon as a fallback for older phones that don't have SVG support. [more inside]
Just a heads up: we're testing out a new ad provider for logged-out, mobile site readers in Ask Metafilter threads. [more inside]
The number of times I've intentionally tapped the profile link of a thread poster on my phone: 0. The number of times I've accidentally tapped the profile link of a thread poster on my phone: an embarrassing amount, uncountable in modern number theory. Can we do something about that? [more inside]
Would it be possible for the "Random" link to be included in mobile view? I like this feature a lot as it's a great way of finding cool FPPs from the past, and some old MeTas are just...wow. But to get to it I have to switch between the mobile and desktop views, which is a pain on my phone. On desktop it's between the "Popular" and "Best Of" links so could it be put there on mobile as well? Does anyone else even use it on a regular basis?
In mobile styles, can a link to "add a favourite" be included at the top of the page that comes when you accidentally click on the comment count in mobile, rather than the + sign? I keep going to the list of people who have favourited a comment, then having to go back and zoom in to correctly hit the +, and my stubby fingers have put me in a loop at times. Possibly this is just me, but a line at the top of the (http://www.metafilter.com/favorited) page that I could reliably hit would be very nice.

PONY : Add a preference setting that forces MeFi to always load in desktop mode on mobile devices? [more inside]
A lot of people have complained about FanFare's professional white background. Well, DRUNK WITH POWER after somehow kludging together a successful CSS theme for /r/MetaFilter with zero experience, I decided to try my hand at giving our new subsite a makeover, too -- the layout is fine, but that glaring white is painful to read in a darkened teevee room. Inspired by the original soothing dark blue color scheme from film/TV review aggregator Metacritic (which discarded it for an unpopular redesign years ago), I put together a complete FanFare theme (screenshot*) that adjusts not just the background and text, but stuff like visited links, link hovering, the pop-up video button and lightbox, posting page notes, live preview area, and the sidebar and Deck ad box. You can install it in Firefox (with Greasemonkey or Stylish), Chrome (with Stylish or Blank Canvas Script Handler), and jailbroken iOS (with Userscript Loader, using this URL) -- it's tested and working properly on all three. I was wondering whether other sausage fingered mefites have the same problem I do. When bashing my opinions into the text box on my mobile or nexus starting the message often means accidentally hitting the link through my username or even the html tags link. Its a particular problem when trying to cut and paste at the beginning of posts since my paste function pops up over the username. If its not just me is there any chance these links could be given a little more space in the page design?
May we please revisit the issue of comments pagination for the mobile site? [more inside]
I flagged something today while reading on my mobile, that five seconds later I realised I did not need to flag for the reason I gave. I could not unflag the comment and I fretted over this for ten minutes guiltily. Previously I have also flagged and favourited things by accident because of the fat fingers/tiny screen while reading metafilter on my phone. Is it technically and/or operationally possible to change the "Flagged" text to a link to either undo the flag/change it or to go straight to the moderators contact page? Or perhaps a "Scourge thyself, blamer of innocents" button would work for me. I'm posting to metatalk because I don't know if this is just a me being dumb on my phone issue or others would also like this added.
I was wondering if it would be possible to get the "Remove from Activity" link added to the Recent Activity page of the Mobile site. Is this something that people would like to have, and if so would it be feasible to implement this feature? [more inside]
On an iPhone, when you have a body of text entered and selected (as if you were going to italicize to quote someone, the "i" button is placed EXACTLY beneath the "Cut/Copy/Paste" dialog box no matter how you scroll. It's infuriating. The only way to get around it seems to be some random combination of zoom and scroll that sometimes results in it becoming unhidden. I can't be the only one who this drives nuts. What if the italicize button were swapped with the "<" button? Does anyone even use that button?
So this seems potentially problematic: Sorry, but the media gallery you are trying to load is not compatible with your device. Apple iOS (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) or Android OS are required - how do we feel about that?
Shortly after the update on the heart attack thread on Ask (dx severe heartburn), the words on Ask only got hugely tiny. Talk & FP are fine. Chrome browser, iOs6.x, recent ish phone.
Just a reminder: Not everyone can see your post titles. [more inside]
So, even outside of election years browser crushing 3000+ post megathreads are now a not uncommon thing - should we be looking at pagination at the 2000 comment mark? And if not pagination what else could be done to make them less of a browser crushing experience, especially on mobile?
When readin MeFi on my iPhone browser, the hardest part is adding favorites by pressing on the + sign. Fat-thumbism leads me 4 times out of 5 incorrectly to the "who favorited this post" page instead. I was just wondering if there could be a way of making just the + button bigger ( from preferences) or (easier?) perhaps an add favorites button could be added to the "who favorited this post page"? Thanks for listening to my random request/query!
When browsing the front page on my phone, the text of many posts runs off the right-hand side of the screen. [more inside]
I like the sidebar on the front page, and how it shows nifty stuff and contact activity. When I'm on my phone, I don't have that, and it makes me feel sad inside. Would the powers that be consider adding a line to the menu on the mobile site that would link to the sidebar content? In my head, this looks exactly like what we have on the front page, except tinier and by itself.

Can we strip the 'm' from links to Wikipedia? In a recent post there was a link to a Wikipedia page that went directly to the mobile site. If your on a mobile device you would automatically get the mobile version so there is no reason to force people on non-mobile devices to it. [more inside]

Three ponies for mobile browsers: remove posts from Recent Activity, go to my own comment after posting it (instead of the top of the page) and the ability to make a new post. Safari on ios 5 here.
I use the mobile site on my phone fairly often. There's a convenient little jump to menu button, but the lovely links start with Mefi and Ask and Meta and have Recent Activity 12th, after things like My Preferences and Profile which I have never used on the mobile site. On the other hand, I use Recent Activity all the time. Can it get moved towards the top of the menu (or to the very top, like all the subparts if you are already in recent activity)? [more inside]
