DC Meetup again?

I am going to DC this week. I have read there was a meet up around the 4th. Yet I'll ask anyway: anyone up for meeting up on this semi-special occasion? So I am heading to DC on business. Will be there tomorrow, and leave Friday. Thus, other than walking around the Monte Cello (which I missed on my previous 2 trips... bad luck), and hanging around with some folks I have not seen in a year, I would like to chill with some of the DC area mefites to see what's happening in and around the Capitol. Any takers? If so, where to? I have already been to the Hard Rock around there and some other restaurant (I'll know it when I see the name), so if you know of some other great places, I'd be happy to go. Thanks! -Joe

ALA 2010 National Conference Meetup

Mefite librarians! It is looking very likely that I, your friendly neighborhood graphic novel (etc.) editor, will be on a panel at the ALA conference in DC this summer. What say we meet up? The panel I'll be on (with several other editors of graphic novels) will be Monday afternoon, June 28 (which also happens to be my birthday). I would love to meet up with any mefites who are at ALA later that afternoon or evening. (And I'll post more specifics about the panel—time, location, etc.—as I know them.) This will be my first time at ALA. I'm really excited!

After the EPIC MEETUP FAIL that was this weekend's DC meetup, there seems to be interest in trying again next month. Saturday December 5, 6pm at H Street Country Club. Can I get a hell yeah? Is there any demand for a MeFi Meetup in Eastern Washington? My life really isn't arranged to let me travel for 5 hours each way to attend one of the Portland or Seattle meetups that are held so frequently. I am curious as to whether there is enough membership and interest to bring together a meetup in Spokane, WA? I have a potential place lined up (a billiard bar right downtown, I've already talked to the owner a bit about it), but have no idea whether there are enough involved readers east of the Cascades for it to be worthwhile even trying to put one of these things together. Plus, well, having not attended one of the established meetups in another city, I'm not even sure what one of these things entails outside of drinks, food, and maybe a little pool. Any feedback about how to organize one of these is welcome, and I especially hope to hear from other MeFites living in the "Inland Empire" who might want to meet up!

DC Area Meet-up Plans!

Plans for future DC area meet-ups! Not to be outdone by Chicago, there have been conversations about the possibility of more frequent DC area meet-ups. The 10th was a fantastic time and I know that at the very least Bulgaroktonos and I would be thrilled to spend more time with all of you. Loto has very kindly taken the time to create a mailing list for upcoming DC MeFi events but as yet we have not had any activity on it (or possibly there has been some and it's just fallen into the void of e-mails I'm not getting). The idea of monthly meet-ups still sounds good to me; we will be around next weekend and the weekend afterwards and also the weekend after that but not the weekend of the 28th. If these sound good to anyone else, we should definitely make plans to do something as unfortunately we seem to have lost planning momentum after we all stopped checking the 10th threads so regularly. If anyone has any time/place requests (at least for us Red Line accessible is best but of course we are flexible to suit the needs of others) that sounds good. Hopefully we can arrange something so that we'll be able to get together again soon as the 10th was the best time I've had in a while. In summary, if we could figure out something for later in August as well as determine how often and where we would like to meet in the future that would be great. Thank you!

Hey, MeFiDC Culture Geeks! There's free classical music at the National Gallery of Art on Sundays. I propose an evening of Martinu, Beethoven, and Schubert on October 9th, possibly followed by a quick jaunt to Chinatown for dimsum and discourse. Those in favor, be at the fountain statue of Mercury at 6:30pm. If this turns the spinning gems over our heads green, perhaps it could be made a regular thing.

Time for YA MeFi Seattle wingding? Early March. I suggest we try the Big Time in the University district, which is well lit, not smoky in the front, and advertises free wifi. A recent Saturday evening scouting trip with jimfl and Danelope revealed an uncrowded, quiet scene. Also, they have good beer.

Thank God It's Over (we hope): post-electionfilter wrap party for Seattle MeFites and blog-worlders is proposed for Saturday evening, November 6, at the Elysian (again). Please offer counter-proposals, including date changes, here. Your event organizers are yours truly and the elusive Danelope, currently headed off to stir up pre-election trouble in an undisclosed location.

We have two picnic tables reserved starting at 10 am, but I figured we could show up around 5 or 6, have a little potluck and maybe retire to a nearby bar afterwards if the park rules against alcohol [and nearly everything else] seem too meddlesome.
