MeFi YouTube Embed: Now with fullscreen! After MeMailing Metafilter's Own pb, he tweaked the params and gave me a beautiful Christmas Pony: the fullscreen button now lives on the embed. (And in under 10 minutes, to boot!) I realize you can click the video and have it load in the same place in YouTube but I can't be the only one annoyed by the new page load, the move away from the thread, and having to click fullscreen there as well. Thanks, pb! (There's a chance the HQ button came about as part of this too, but I'm not sure.)

Help me see this youtube video in Canada.

The youtube video in this FPP is not available in my country (Canada) due to copyright restrictions. I've watched it before and would like to watch it again. Can someone either point me to it somewhere else online where it might work (maybe on youtube at another account), or at least tell me the proper title or some info I can use to search myself? Thanks.

Making-of video posted for "I Gotta Feeling" lipdub

Remember the I Gotta Feeling lipdub done by students at the Université du Québec à Montréal? They've posted a making-of video. You get to see the blocking and other prep, much of the first take, and also a third-party view following the film crew during the final shoot -- and then the crowd of participants as they funnel into the studio to meet the camera for the final shot. You get a good look at the (consumer grade?) steadicam used. Almost as much fun as the original.

Why are (SLYT) (SLnYT) (MLYT) MLnYT) etc. around? If I recall, originally these were to prevent snark in threads due to people saying "single link Youtube isn't the best of the web" and also so people didn't have to mouse over the link to figure out if it was you tube or not. So, now we have those wonderful* play buttons next to every Youtube link, and people tagging multi-link posts to avoid what kind of snark I do not know, as they are the antithesis of the original problem. I am not asking for any kind of policy or directive on this issue, I just wanted to open a discussion to weigh the merits of this possibly vestigial practice. My last MeTa was a bit too pushy, so I tried to make this one happy-happy. Hopefully I succeeded. * Little bit of snark there, they basically made linking multiple videos with a single word look very shabby.

Why doesn't the Metafilter support inline youtube video embedding on anything other than the blue? Arising specifically from this question, because nothing disrupts staring at cool shit like going through tabs.

How to best construct a FPP with varying links? So in this (deleted) FPP, I collected a bunch of videos about different news organizations reporting on cats stuck in trees, which I find completely absurd and hilarious. I guess it didn't meet standards, and the reasoning given was "And that's it for this episode of Eye On Youtube." So I'm just curious what I could have used to pepper the FPP to make it worthwhile.

Folo-up: In 2005 I posted the trailer for a documentary about the legendary SoCal band The Beat Farmers. Due to licensing issues *cough* Letterman clip *cough* the DVD has never been released, despite pleading from fans...until now. Director Jamie Dawson just put the whole thing on YouTube in 9 parts (about 8 mins. each) plus coda. YT Playlist here.

PonyFilter: Can the inline YouTube embed please support fullscreen? My understanding is that the simple <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> will get what I'm asking for—the fullscreen button appearing on the YouTube embed. (And, come to think of it, this is something that could likely be easily enough GreaseMonkeyed, but still.) Apologies if this has been discussed before. A cursory glance at the Google and MeTa posts tagged "youtube" returned nothing of merit.

Is there some behind-the-scenes Youtube link changing going on? (not that there's anything wrong with that) I posted this comment and linked to a Youtube playlist and a regular video. Just now I was looking at recent activity, and both links were light green since I've already been there, when all of a sudden they changed to the regular, new-link-that-I-haven't-been-to green, and they're both normal, youtube links. That is, the "this clip" link had a "related" tag in the URL, and the playlist link wasn't just pointing to a video, but to a playlist. The only similar MeTa I could find was this thread, but it looks like my issue is something else. Feel free to let me know if I should comment over there, though. I'm running FF 3.0.6 on Vista.

Why doesn't the "display Youtube videos inline" setting affect MeTa? I don't see the little inline viewing icons for Youtube links in MeTa threads. Were they ever implemented for MeTa? I thought I saw them pre- ServerDämmerüng but I may have been hallucinating. Will they ever make it (back) to MeTa? Alternately, make fun of my misused Heavy Metal Ümłäütß.

Using FF3.0.3 on OSX 10.5.5 with Shockwave 10.0r12, the embedded youtube player redirects me to an error page that says:
(Get Flash to see the youtube player.)

"Video player" link to UK YouTube doesn't work. However, the regular link that opens up a YouTube tab works just fine. I tried this with another YouTube link (not UK YouTube though) and no problem. Some facts: I am in the US&A. Mac OS 10.5.3 FF 3.0.1

How much difference does $5 make?. Mashup by bertrandom pulls the most recent comments from Metafilter and the comments from the most viewed videos on Youtube and puts them side-by-side for comparison. Self-indulgent wankery, but so, so satisfying. I thought this didn't deserve to languish on Projects.

I don't want to sign up for a youtube account. While I'm sure this is a lovely video, I have no interest in opening yet another internet account just to watch it. As such, this post is fairly inaccessible. The reason this is a MeTa instead of a flag-and-move-on is that I'm not sure whether youtube has become so ubiquitous that I just need to get over it and sign up for an account. What say ye, mefites?
