demographic mismatch, or possible meetup activity?

I found this ad amusing

Or is it just me?

I like the DECK ads, but the American Apparel ones aren't like the others. They are objectifying and cliched and make me wince every time they pop up. Any way for MetaFilter block those specific ads or send feedback to the DECK people to let them know they're hurting their brand by allowing that kind of crap?

dynamic.fmpub.net is dead

The front page of Ask MetaFilter contains JavaScript which references the Federated Media ad server dynamic.fmpub.net. However, the ad server reports that it is should no longer be used. [more inside]

Meet the new ad, [not the] same as the old ad.

Just wanted to say that the new t-shirt ad on the blue is sooo much easier on the eyes than the old one, so thanks.

MeFi Reader Survey

So, I was all set to take the survey which is mentioned at AskMe (right-hand side, under the list tags/post block)
"MetaFilter Readers. Support this site and its advertisers by participating in a brief survey: questionmarket.com."
Unfortunately, this is the result when clicking on the link: "The website you're looking for cannot be found. The website may no longer exist, or may have moved."

payloadz ad crashes browser

I don't know what that payloadz ad is but when I click on it, absolutely nothing happens. Nothing. Anywhere. Especially in my browser.

Mefi detectives: over-zealous?

Must we really put on our Mefi detective caps for every single thread, now? They're not all airnxtz's, and this one appears genuine, despite the nature of the link.

Obnoxious ad on front page

The "Access your PC from anywhere" ad is really obnoxious. It's a big white square with an un-antialised blue underlined headline that makes it looks like some CSS file has failed to load. Oh, and it blinks. It reminds me of the "Oh noes! You are broadcasting an IP address!" ads.

I realise these things make the site money, but that one sucks. :(

Why didn't my ad run?

I don't know if this is a bug, per se, but it's certainly a problem. I submitted a text ad a while back and paid for it with PayPal. I never got any email, and the ad was never activated. I can log into the ad system and see it in the inactive section, but there is no option to activate it. It never ran, there are 0 views.

In addition I had a hard time figuring out who to contact about this. There is nothing in the ad system area, the wiki, the text ad information page, or the text ad order page telling me who to contact with a text ad problem! I found Matt Haughey's address on the About page, but it has been about two weeks now with no response.

Any suggestions? I'd love to know how to get the ad activated, how to prevent this in the future, and/or how to get my money back.

Pepsi Bluest of the Web

Pepsi Blue?

This is a single-link FPP to a new brand of cellphone. Is this really BOTW?

deleting metatalk, broken blogad

Two things:

1. Deleting metatalk threads is bad karma.
2. The "don't pardon big tobacco" blogad is broken -- apostrophes ['] and quotes ["] are displaying as question marks [?] (this is strange, since quotes are displaying fine in the other blogad).

Publicizing mefi IRC

I had a crazy idea, just now. How about some sort of tiny advert for #mefi on the metatalk front page some place? I think the channel could (use new blood/be more visible/have rollerskating waitresses).

Should this post be yanked before or after penis-enlargement-pills?

So this thread isn't exactly an advertisement, but it does link to a site whose actual purpose seems to be to sell some sort of penis-enlargement-pill.

I'm not saying that the post should get yanked, but I am wondering whether content whose purpose is to advertise a product should really be the subject of a front page post.

text ad does not fit in box

Is anyone else seeing problems with links on some text ads being a bit too long to fit the box? Screenshot is from MSIE 5.1.3 on Mac OS X.

Self-promotion on weblogs

Winer's weblog down temporarily to plug new product. I was quite surprised to see the weblog gone.. and a product ad in my face.

Since it's his work and his site, it's fine ;-) But it made me think.. is there such a thing as a weblog becoming too self-promotional? Or is this a perfect use for weblogs in a society where we're all screaming for attention?

Do I know those guys?

Is that Matt and Jack on the Mitsubishi Eclipse [Start the commotion] commercial? Just maybe the glasses and the haircut. Who are the female models in that spot anyway?

I pity the fool! HAHAHA...love the pop. And it worked--I toddled right over and donated. Good on ya, Matt.
