What were the mods like (on Metafilter) before they were mods? Please point me to notable posts by Jessamyn, Cortex, et al from when they were just some schmo on MeFi like you or me. [more inside]

I saw the best minds of mefi generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, clicking themselves through the blue pages at dawn looking for an angry fix....

Is there a good place to send jessamyn, pb and cortex gift cards, canned goods or other tokens of gratitude as a thank you for their efforts in keeping MeFi blue in 2007, or would that be considered tacky and inappropriate? [more inside]

We added a bunch MeFi Mail updates that seemed worthy of a post here (and if you have more ideas maybe add them here) [more inside]

cortex notes in passing something about the "admin console." Jessamyn drops a dark reference to the "admin-facing flags" interface. Come on MeFi elite admin caste! Let's see screenshots! Feel free to lie if the truth is not interesting.

Hey Matt and Jess, how's about promoting a mod from Europe, or dare I say Australia, so we can kill crap like this before we give the self-promoting little jerk a soapbox? (I'm only half kidding.)

There seems to be no clear way to contact the administrators for users who are not familiar with the site. Could we add a contact link up in the top nav section, or somewhere obvious?

At the same time that mathowie posts a site hosting game ROMs from the 1980s, my link to a BitTorrent file of a 1950s and -60s recording of a 19th century classical work was removed. Funny ol' world...

Just being nosy. Who are the 'admins' on metafilter? Obviously mathowie. Bless him. I just saw Jessamyn (hi!) delete a post. Who else are up there?

I'd be remiss after publicly joining in the criticism of silent edits by the admins if I didn't publicly thank jessamyn for demonstrating that she does listen to complaints. Thanks jessamyn!

I'm not completely sure who is babysitting Metafilter while Matt has way more important things going on, but I just wanted to say "Thanks" to whomever is keeping an eye on things and also "Thanks" to the community for (apparently) keeping the chaos to a minimum while he's away.

MeFi CD Mix Exchange... please let me know if this is an inappropriate place for this question. A while back there was a sign up for a MeFi CD Exchange. I haven't heard anything about it again. Any idea if this was legitimate and is still going on?

From the wiki: "MetaFilter runs on a ColdFusion engine written by MattHaughey. The source isn't available although he is thinking of GPLing it in July 2003."

I don't remember any discussion of releasing the MetaFilter code. Is it still under consideration?

What would happen to Metafilter if Matt (heaven forbid) were to get hit by a bus or something? Is there a contingency plan in place? I could have just emailed Matt about this, but I thought some other people might also be interested in the answer.

Okay, there's been some negativity round these parts lately, so let's try this: Is there any MeFiosi upon whom you've developed a sort of (intellectual?) crush? (Potentially lame query, I know, but I figure it'll get some positive feedback going. We've spilled a lot of bytes talking about the people, or personae, we don't like, ad nauseam, so I figure the opposite is worth a shot. So shoot! Free love!)
