Now we know how Matt not only paid his rent, but put down a deposit on the Playboy Mansion.

I made a lofi stylesheet

I whipped up a quick user stylesheet to be used with lofi MetaFilter. I don’t know if it works with anything but Opera, but here’s a screenshot. What do you think?

Metafilter front page filter

OK, there were 40 front-page posts yesterday. Just for laffs, here's a MetaFilter front page filter. Change the number after the ? in the URL to change the highest numbered user whose posts you'll see. Old school!

(Here's the source.)

I'll make this filter private soon, 'cause I just wrote it to support this suggestion: I think something like this should be a MetaFilter preference. Anyone else?

Desperately seeking an album from a page that no longer exists

Hi all,

I'm posting here because I knew this would be way out of line for a front page post, but I am desperate....

I need to find as many copies of this album as possible, on vinyl.

does anyone happen to have a few dozen laying around? Or any good ideas when I could find some either online or off...? And relatively CHEAP?! I've tried ebay and some cutout companies...ebay is too slow... I've found two.... and cut out places are too expensive... $8.00 a copy!!! with maybe 10% off for bulk.

Its for a good cause.... Sorry if I've ruffled any feathers with this post...but any help would be appreciated.

thank yous,
darkPony

Mefi compared to chemical spill

I think Lance finally hit upon the perfect motto:

"Like a great train wreck involving hundreds dead in a chemical spill that strips the skin off babies and puppies and makes the entire population collectively vomit up blood, I keep coming back to look some more."

Matt's working on ticketstub

Yes, I'm working on it. Here's a mockup of the front page as it might appear, and I'm coding the guts of the site this week. Once things are up and ready for content, I'm sure the front page will change. It's a bit too sparse at the top, and I don't know if the mockup design lends itself well to revists, it looks too first-time-visitor to me.

But I'm working on it.

Any updates on the status of metafiltro.com?

Any updates on the status of metafiltro.com? I understand that you aren't really involved in it Matt, but since subte.com, whose people apparently are, doesn't seem to work, I didn't know where else to turn.

So old the link right broke.

Today's Suck isn't all that amusing, but the little "five years ago today on Suck" is, mentioning the weblog's favourite cutie, Jason and Suck for Dummies. Technically, that makes Sock 130 years old in web years. Which might explain why the link is dead.

Off-topic, off-color

I was just reading over the QuickTopics thread, and a thought came to mind that a solution akin to what Raging Bull used to do, namely offering a check box in the posting area that actually allows the poster to self-label their comment as off-topic (OT) or not.

Basically, all the posts that are self-labeled as off-topic would show-up as a less contrasting text color (say a bluish-white, or something) in the thread. This will give users a visual clue that can help them better navigate the thread. I'm also thinking that a little glyph out on the main page to indicate off-topic material might also be useful, if only to invite the curious into the thread. This might, though, encourage too much OT. I don't know.

What do you think?

can I use micropayments to allow for 'microinvesting' in a movie I'm making?

Using micropayments + weblog to fund an indie film. I've been floating this idea around and wondered what you folks thought. Donating a dollar via paypal would result in 1 "share" of the profits from the film... could this work?
